Shawn Gustin Obituary
Cumming
Shawn Lee Gustin, 42, went to be with the Lord, surrounded by his family on Wednesday, February 13, 2013. He was born February 22, 1970, in Council Bluffs to Edward and Janet Gustin.
Shawn was a master electrician and owner of Gustin Electric. He loved being out doors, working in the yard with his wife, campfires and deer hunting with his son. Shawn enjoyed watching sports and his children's activities, westerns, listening to Elvis Presley, and his black labs, Duke and Max. Most of all, Shawn was a loving husband and father.
Shawn is survived by his wife, Alison; children, KayLee Gustin and Matthew Gustin; mother, Janet; sister, Cyndi Doerr; and brother, Steven Gustin. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Gustin; brother, Thomas Gustin; grandfather, Glen Ballinger; grandma, Marie Lohoff; uncle, Allen Schaaf; cousins, Carl Swolley and Karen Duncan; brother-in-law, Chad Woods.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Monday, February 18, 2013, at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway, in West Des Moines. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Lymphoma & Leukemia Societies, Mayo Clinic, or HCI, in loving memory of Shawn.

Shawn will be never be forgotten....I cherish all the memories of all of us growing up together. Denison and living down the street, Schleswig, Manning and Atlantic... if i was not at home I was with my cousins. Shawn was always like my big brother protecting from all the neighbor boys. The crash on the dirt bike.. I still have a rock embedded in my left knee from that experience. All the many bithdays of all of us,summers, holidays, Grama's house,the pool,track meets and football games of my bros and so many more but mostly he is remembered as a honarable &, hardworking man of strength who loved YOU, and would do anything for anyone in a heartbeat. He was so loved and will be greatly missed! My prayers & love go to you all!!

I'm sorry to hear of Shawn's passing. My mother was a Gustin. I met Shawn when I worked at Graybar's in DM. I never new a Gustin could get that tall and have red hair. Neither he nor I knew if we were related or not. But I do know the Gustin name used to have an "e" at the end originally. I will pray for him.
