Charles Michelson Broh of Southfield, Michigan, son of the late Charles S. Broh and Shirley Broh Davis of Huntington West Virginia, died from complications due to cancer on September 30th, 2019. He was 82.
Chuck graduated from college at Marshall University and earned a Ph.D. in Medieval English Literature at Case Western Reserve University. He taught at Oakland University before becoming an advertising executive at Young and Rubicam Advertising Agency in Detroit; he retired in 1996. Chuck led continuing education courses, an opera group, a film group, and a book group after retirement.
Born December 23, 1936 in Huntington WV, he used to joke that his "life-timing" was poorly planned, having first come home from the hospital in in the midst of the Ohio River 1937 Flood and stricken with polio only a few years before the discovery of a vaccine.
Chuck followed the University of Michigan in any televised sport, was an avid Tigers baseball fan, and travelled each summer to see his grandson's Philadelphia little league team, "The Taney Dragons." He was a longtime member of Temple Beth El in Bloomfield Hills, MI and a subscriber to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Michigan Opera, and the Eddie Lake Society. Pets were special in his life - from his childhood dog "Tinka" to continuous pairs of Siamese cats.
He is survived by his son, Jonathan Alan Broh, daughter-in-law Catherine Gibson Broh and grandson Avery Hudson Broh of Philadelphia PA, his former wife Caroline W. Johnson of Sedona AZ, sister Saralynn Broh Glass (Sheldon D. Glass) of Baltimore MD, brother C. Anthony Broh (Jennifer L. Hochschild) of Brookline MA, step-father C. Norman Davis of Huntington WV, close friends Rick Bloome, Joan Booker and Barbara Glick Shapiro, plus numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Burial took place at Spring Hill Cemetery in Huntington. A memorial service will be held at Temple Beth El in Bloomfield Hills MI at 1:00 pm on Sunday, October 27.
