Charles Haulden Dalgleish Jr.

Born 14 June 1925 - Died 14 September 2020. WWII Veteran and Detroit Car Dealer and Businessman. Charles "Charlie" Haulden Dalgleish Jr. was born in Detroit of Canadian immigrants Charles H. Dalgleish and Lillian Dalgleish (nee Carkner) and he married Mary Jane Gilbert from Nashville, Tennessee on 15 August 1953. He had a younger brother Douglas S. Dalgleish who is deceased and a sister Muriel Dalgleish Schaffer. Charles and Mary Jane had three children Sara Jane Dalgleish Chason (deceased) (spouse Dr. David Chason), Elisabeth Dalgleish-O'Brien (John), and Colonel Charles K. Dalgleish US Army (Retired) (spouse Ann). In addition, he has grandchildren Benjamin G. Chason, Dr. Rebecca D. Chason, John C. O'Brien Jr, Kenneth P. O'Brien, Jennifer M. O'Brien, Charles E.S. Dalgleish, Henry W.M. Dalgleish, and James "Leo" S. Dalgleish. He attended Cadillac Grade School, Cooley High School, and during WWII was commissioned as an Officer in the US Navy serving as a Sonar Officer at the rank of Ensign. He attended Columbia Midshipman School and the University of Michigan from which he graduated in 1947. In 1948, he started in the family automobile business with his father and later his brother as partner, He was Sales Manager of the largest Nash Dealership in the United States from 1950-1954, Manager of Dalgleish Cadillac 1955-1970, and thereafter President of Dalgleish Cadillac at 6160 Cass Ave., Detroit, Michigan. He and his brother Doug were great partners and ran an Oldsmobile dealership and added the Peugot auto line to the Dalgleish Cadillac dealership from 1982 to 1992. He was a past Director of the Cadillac Dealer Association, member of Orchard Lake Country Club, Detroit Athletic Club, Detroit Rotary, Detroit Executives Association, and the United Methodist Church of Birmingham. He was a Mason in Corinthian Lodge #241 and a Knight in the Detroit Commandery #1. He was Treasurer of DMC Detroit Medical Center for 9 years, and a Board Member of the Detroit Medical Center from 1990-1995. He enjoyed golf, skiing, playing the violin, music, travel, and chess. He and his brother owned a family ski condominium for over 42 years in Vail, Colorado where the families spent many wonderful ski vacations. He will be interred at Acacia Park Cemetery at 12 Noon on 19 September 2020 with military honors. A.J. Desmond & Sons, (248) 549-0500.
