John Alexander

It is with sadness that we share the passing of John Robertson 'Iain' Alexander on New Year's Day 01/01/2021.

Born in Dollar, Scotland in 1926, he spent the first part of his childhood in his home country. After attending Dollar Academy, his parents John and Elizabeth immigrated to Detroit MI, where his dad was fortunate to find work in the auto industry.

Graduating from Northwestern High in Detroit and continuing his education at Assumption College in Windsor, ON, he would graduate with a degree in philosophy.

It was in college that he met the love of his life, Adele. They were married September 2nd, 1950, until her death in 2014.

With seven kids in the offing, daughter Tobi Elizabeth, sons, Robin James, Benjamin David, John Kristen, Eric Robertson, Malcolm Paul, and Adam Stuart, the Alexanders made their home in Royal Oak.

Known to many as an intelligent and caring man, he had many diverse and esoteric interests. Being from Scotland he was an avid golfer. Yet it was people he was most interested and fascinated with.

After retiring from Chrysler, he was longing for a way to fill his passion, which seemed to be engaging with others. It came to fruition with his first foray into business and we were all introduced to what would become a local favorite, Four Green Fields Irish Pub. Located in the Northwood shopping plaza at 13 mile and Woodward and opening in December 1980, it would become a great meeting place and local haunt. He later became owner/operator of the "Goat Farm" pub in Novi.

He leaves behind grandchildren: Karis Elizabeth and Peter Jacob. Lindsay Lucille and Lauren Adele. Edward Joseph, Robert Jay (Storch), Anthony John, and Jack Benjamin, as well as six great grandchildren.
