Alvin Denton Obituary

Alvin Reagan Denton was called home by God on Monday, July 25, 2005.

Funeral: 10 a.m. Thursday at Martin United Methodist Church, followed by graveside service at 3 p.m. in Center Cemetery, Center.

Reagan Denton was born Sept. 1, 1919, to Alvin Russell Denton and Anna Marie Roxy Wiggins. Reagan was a man of integrity, strength and moral courage, who gave unfailing love to his family and God. He was a loving husband who adored his wife Marian. He once said that the key to his and Marian's marriage success was, if they had squabbled, they never closed their eyes to sleep before they were able to say I love you to each other and truly mean it. That was indicative of how he led his whole life. He was fair-minded and led by faith.

Reagan was raised in and always loved East Texas, which he called God's country. After retiring from American Airlines as an airline mechanic, he and Marian spent most of their retirement years living on Cedar Creek Lake in Gun Barrel City, where they were active members of Payne Springs United Methodist Church. Reagan was a 32nd degree Mason and was active in the lodge for as long as his health allowed.

After moving to Bedford in 2000, Reagan and Marian transferred their church membership to Martin United Methodist Church.

Survivors: His wife of 63 years, Marian Shepherd Denton; his sister, Virginia Collins of Granbury; daughters, Martha McNutt of Grapevine, Lynda Lane of Brentwood, Tenn., Janette Fuller of Euless and Marie Neal of Irving; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
