Ann Henckels Obituary

Ann Elizabeth Evans Henckels, 86, died peacefully in her sleep at home surrounded by close friends Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008.
Memorial service: 4 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church of Fort Worth, 1000 Penn St., Fort Worth. A reception will follow at River Crest Country Club.
Memorials: Amon Cater Museum, 3501 Camp Bowie Blvd., Fort Worth, Texas 76107.
Mrs. Henckels was born Jan. 18, 1922, into a fifth-generation Fort Worth family. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Jack, who was the great love of her life. Mr. Henckels set five world speed records for hydroplane racing and was owner of the Natatorium Laundry, Johnson Towel Supply and TexGal Linen Supply, which were founded by his grandfather, James E. Johnson.
Mrs. Henckels' father was William L. Evans and her mother was Annie Zinn Evans. Her paternal great-grandfather was John F. "Spade" Evans, founder of the Spade Ranch in Clarendon, Donley County, and a founder of the Panhandle Cattlemen's Association. Her maternal grandfather was John Zinn, the second justice of the peace of Fort Worth and a founder of First Presbyterian Church.
A graduate of Stanford University, Mrs. Henckels was active in many organizations, including the Junior League, Assembly, Jewel Charity Ball, the Fort Worth Garden Club, among others; however, her favorite was the Poker Club.
An active hunter and fly fisher, she loved everything and everybody. She was always a participant, never an observer. Her surprisingly direct wit and wisdom will be missed.
Mrs. Henckels was preceded in death by her first son, Dudley Evans Henckels.
Survivors: Son, Kirk Henckels and wife, Fernanda Kellogg, of New York City, N.Y.; stepgranddaughter, Fernanda Gilligan of London, England; nephew, William T. Evans and wife, Lee Evans; niece, Cindy Evans; and nephew, James Evans.

May God continue to bless each and every one of you during such a sad time. I never met Mrs. Henckels personally, but I often heard what a wonderfully sweet person she was from my grandmother, Venora Meeks, who worked many years for Mr and Mrs Henckels before she retired.

Dear Kirk,

I am so sorry to see that your Mom has passed on. I have loved her from as far back as I can remember. She had a true gift of just making one feel better. Her smile was radiant and her heart was so sweet. I know that this time is very hard right now, but if my memory serves me well, she passed along that same gift to you. So when you laugh, when you smile, when you feel that tender heart within yourself, your Mom is right there.

With deepest sympathy and love,
Rennie Ross
