Benjamin Fain Obituary

Benjamin Asbury Fain Jr. NORTH RICHLAND HILLS--Benjamin Asbury Fain Jr., 93, passed away Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018. GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 2 p.m. Tuesday in Greenwood Memorial Park. He was born and raised in Brownwood, Texas. He attended Howard Payne University and Texas A&M University. In 1943, at age 19 he was called to serve in World War II by the U.S. Army. During his service, he spent time in Normandy, France, Ardennes Rhineland, Germany, and various locations in central Europe. He served two years and eight months and was honorably discharged in 1945 at age 21. After the war, he resumed his education at the University of Texas at Austin, graduating in 1948. While at the university, he met and married his wife of 55 years, Mary Elizabeth "Bess" Altgelt. From there he returned to Brownwood and worked in the family business, Fain's Department Store. Later he moved to Fort Worth where he was employed by Convair (General Dynamics/Lockheed Martin) for the next 16 years. He worked the final 18 years of his career for Oncor Electric Delivery in Fort Worth. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mary Elizabeth Fain. SURVIVORS: Son, Douglas B. Fain and wife, Diana, of North Richland Hills; sister, Cora Lee Baldwin of Long Boat Key, Fla.; and grandson, Nicholas Coan of North Richland Hills.

My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there is a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.

Doug, I'm sorry that I did not see your father's obituary until this afternoon, too late to attend the funeral.

I recall your father as a very fine gentleman, and I enjoyed many an hour sitting and visiting with him and your mother.
