Benny Hedrick Obituary

Benny "Ben" T. Hedrick, 86, passed away Friday, June 12, 2015. Memorial service: 2 p.m. Thursday at Advent Lutheran Church, 3232 S. Cooper St., Arlington, followed by a reception. Memorials: Donations can be made to Advent Lutheran Church of Arlington or the Humane Society of North Texas. Ben was born Aug. 30, 1928, in Ennis to George and Wilhelmina Blom Hedrick. He briefly attended Texas A&M, class of '49, and was a faithful Aggies fan. In 1956, he began a 28-year career with American Can Co. as a master machinist and retired as plant superintendent. After retirement, he worked at the University of Texas at Arlington, teaching students in machine shop work to support the Formula SAE design team of UTA and assisted in making mechanical devices for physical therapy. Retirement gave Ben the opportunity to move to Holly Lake and enjoy golf and fellowship in a retirement community. Upon moving back to Arlington, he played with the Men's Senior Golf Association. Ben was a current member of Advent Lutheran Church and enjoyed playing bridge with a seniors group. Ben was a loving husband and father and a rescuer of numerous shelter dogs. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mitzi Dwyer; and brother, George Hedrick. Survivors: His wife of 66 years, Lila Hedrick of Arlington; son, Steve Hedrick (Trish) of Cleburne; daughter, Laura Dallman (Jeff) of Grand Prairie; and nieces and nephews.

Ben was a kind and loving man. He was warmly called "Uncle Benny" at our house and was one of my Dad's favorite friends at American Can. Our prayers are with your loving wife, Lila and family. Janet Wilkerson Thelen
