Billy Field Obituary

Billy R. Field, 81, died Thursday, May 19, 2011. Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Christopher Episcopal Church. Interment: Everman Cemetery. Visitation: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, family requests gifts in his honor to a charity of choice. Billy was born Jan. 12, 1930, in Jefferson to Roger Field and Hazel Anderson. Billy had a data processing career that spanned more than 40 years. The highlight of his career was serving as international president of the Data Processing Management Association. Billy held positions with Commercial Standard Insurance Co., Century Life Insurance Co., Commercial Monitoring Corp. and National Farm Life Insurance Co. He retired as vice president of Agricultural Workers Mutual Auto Insurance Co. in 1995. Although he received many accolades in the field of computer technology, his greatest achievements were as a father and husband. He will be remembered for his wit and revered "Billyisms." Despite his coat-and-tie world of business, his true nature revealed itself when he put on his overalls and connected to the earth through farming and outdoor recreation. He balanced the demands of the corporate world by fishing, hunting, boating, gardening and supporting youth sports. His last years were spent watching the Mavericks, Rangers and playing computer games. Survivors: Wife of 53 years, Lynda; children, Margie Field, Marsha Carter (Lance), Nancy Zamboras (Bob), Janet Back, Roger Field (Lisa) and Frank Field (Cinderella); brother, Louis Field; and sister, Nelda Evans. Billy leaves behind 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Wow! Where do I start? Mr. Field and I worked together at National Farm 1980-82 & Ag Workers 1984-86. He was very good to me when I was at Ag Workers. May God surround the Field family during this time of sorrow. Take care.
