I grew up in River Oaks and my family and I frequented the Burrus grocery store many times a week. My siblings and I would walk there after school to get Oreo cookies and string cheese with whatever change we had. It was a great store and was employed by great people, my great uncle Jesse also worked there. I had no idea Mr. Burrus laid his roots in the great city of Grapevine, but after living here myself for 16 years, I can see why. When I think of Burrus I can instantly remember the layout of the store, a memory of one time when a man who fell and slipped on milk that was spilt on the floor just before the cash register, another time of finding a $10 or $20 bill that was on the ground and asking my mom if she dropped it, I knew she didn’t as we didn’t have much- and it bought our dinner that night. Burrus was the only place in town that had gum-ball and prize machines that had lick & stick ink tattoos- they were my favorite as a child and I remember as a teen recalling my childhood memories entering that store that they may fade away over time. Thank you for the memories, Mr. Burrus. May you rest in peace. Keeping the family in my prayers. ❤

I had the pleasure and I certainly mean pleasure for working at Burrus store through my high school years. Bob was the best boss I ever had. I do remember when he closed for the first time. Not sure what time he finally got to go home that night. Fantastic Man.
