Brenda Simmons Obituary

Brenda G. Simmons, God's gift to us as a wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, lost her battle with cancer and went into the arms of our Lord and Savior on Friday, Dec. 5, 2008.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. Saturday at Meadowridge Community Baptist Church.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to the Cancer Education Research Foundation of Texas, 800 W. Magnolia Ave., Fort Worth, Texas 76104; The Susan G. Koman for the Cure; or any charity of your choosing.
Brenda was born Dec. 14, 1954, in Houston. She graduated from Deer Park High School, Lamar University in Beaumont and Physical Therapy School at UTMB in Galveston. She spent her life caring for others and is now being cared for by her Savior.
Her goal in life was to be a Proverbs 31 wife - Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. She succeeded in this and more.
Brenda was preceded in death by her father, Charles Ruth, and her sister, Cathy Haddad.
Survivors: Husband, Rod Simmons; sons, John Davis and Roderick Simmons; sister, Angela Holstien; mother, Dorothy Dawlearn; stepfather, Dwayne Dawlearn; stepsister, Dannette Floyd; stepbrother, David Dawlearn; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

I was blessed to grow up with Brenda as a neighbor and close friend during our golden days of childhood and high school. She was always an angel and we shared so many happy times together just growing up. At our 50 year Deer Park reunion last night I just found out that she passed away. Many of us were looking for her and filled with sadness that she is gone. I loved her then and love her still. And know that I will see her again.

Brenda was a wonderful person. I had the opportunity to get to know her working at a local physical therapy clinic. She was truly a blessing to her patients and coworkers.

Brenda was my oldest daughter. I have learned many wonderful things I didn't know about her from people who's lives she touched. I miss her very much.

Brenda was my daughter-in-law and a wonderful part of my family. She brightened our lives in the Fort Smith AR and OK area. Brenda worked in home health as well as hospital as a physical therapist. Patients still remember her and appreciate all she did for them. She will be missed by all who loved her.

I had the pleasure of meeting her several times in the Waco, office she worked at. I was very blessed to work with her and get to know her a little bit. She was and is a wonderful person. I know she will be missed, and I am praying for the family, and wish them well. Thank you for the opportunity to meet such a wonderful woman. God Bless

I first met Brenda at my son's birthday party. Her son was in my son's class and they became friends. For the next few years, we'd see eachother at our sons' parties and at school events. Brenda and I hit it off because we were both in the elite club of women who had children after 40. I remember laughing with her as she told the story of when she discovered she was going to have a baby at 45. She was a gentle, kind soul.
