Charles Nash Obituary

Charles Edgar Nash III, beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, died suddenly Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2015, in his 82nd year. Graveside service: 3 p.m. Monday in Greenwood Memorial Park. A celebration of Charles' life will follow in The Live Oak Room at Greenwood. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a charity of choice. Charles was born May 16, 1933, to Charles Edgar Nash Jr. and Catherine Kidd Nash. Charles was the fourth generation of his family born in Fort Worth. He attended Charles E. Nash elementary school, named for his grandfather. He graduated from Paschal High School and attended TCU. Charles began working at an early age in the family business, Nash Hardware, until boredom and his passion for water skiing led him and his wife, Wynell, to create that first pair of skis in their garage. Together they built the iconic brand of Nash into the largest water ski and skateboard manufacturer in the world. The company still exists today. One of the first Nash skateboards is on display at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., and Charles is still considered famous in the California boarding community, which amazed him. He built his first ski boat, earned his pilot's license and flew his own plane all before the age of 21, until his mother found out. Eventually he bought his own jet and hired two pilots, which he insisted was much safer. His enthusiasm for deep-sea fishing took him in pursuit of the largest fish to the oceans of Australia, Baja, Mexico, Peru, Panama, Texas and his beloved Bahamas. Proudest catches include the 1,080-pound black marlin off the Great Barrier Reef and his last catch, a 900-pound giant blue fin tuna caught in the waters of Cat Cay, Bahamas, on his famous yacht, The Kaydiddle, named for his only child. He enjoyed many, many happy days at his second home in Fort Lauderdale and at The Cat Cay Yacht Club, Bahamas, where he was a cherished member for many years and a bashful legend. Charles had a thirst for information and a deep curiosity and was an eager mentor to people of all ages and walks of life. He encouraged the best from everyone and demanded it of himself. He loved music and he liked it loud! He always had a plan. After losing his precious wife of 54 years, Wynell, he found love again with his adoring and devoted wife, Deborah Alexander Nash, seven years ago. When he said, "Come fly with me," she said, "I will," and they did, all over the world on new adventures. He is remembered as humble, kind, generous, brilliant and dynamic. He had the greatest smile on earth and, now, in heaven. The family would like to express special thanks to Vicki Samuelson, Dr. Peter Damico, Donna Taylor and Jacque Lasister. Survivors: Wife, Deborah; daughter, Catherine Nash Coscio; son-in-law, John; granddaughters, Rachel Nash Kapila and husband, Ranjit, and their children, Ash and Oz, Charlotte Lee Ice Sammons and husband, John, and their expected daughter, and Amanda Victoria Ice and husband, Erik Shea, and their son, Kasper Charles Ice Shea, born the day after Charles' death; sister-in-law, Carolyn Parker and husband, Coy; niece and nephew, Belinda and Montgomery Johnson; nephew, Brian Parker; sister, Millie Scott and nephew, William Scott, and family; father-in-Law, Edward Leon Alexander; brother-in-law, David Alexander and wife, Cheryl, and their children, Brandon and Madeline; chosen son, Keith Parten and wife, Caren, and their sons, Bryce and Chase; and a host of friends.

I think of your dad every now and then....what a fun dad he was and so successful. I remember he and your mom doing your hair before our first dance in the 6th grade. I remember because I had never seen so much attention given to one child. He was fun and adventuresome....not to mention successful. He lived his dream and I love that!

I met Charles Nash while working at a local computer company in Fort Worth. Whenever he would call I would always make sure I got the call to take care of him. When I left that company Charles requested to have my number handy for any assistance he may need. He said that he trusted me to get the job done. I formed an IT company and told Charles about it. I let Charles know that he could call anytime and I would make him my priority. This is the kindest most gentle and respected man I have met in a very long time. He reminded me so much of my dad whom I had lost years earlier in my life. Charles beat me to heaven for I am sure I met an angel in my life. This is something I just found out about. But I am happy he has gone ahead of me to make room for when I arrive. May god bless your arrival.

I am so saddened by the loss of such a wonderful man! His generosity, kindness, grace, and humility will be missed by all whose lives he touched. Watching the pictures scroll through at the reception was so beautiful to watch; his smile was the best smile, but, the light in his eyes when he was doing the things he loved to do with the people he loved and adored was magnificent!!! Pure joy in everything he did! It is such a blessing to have had a brush with greatness in being around such a fine example of living life to the fullest!

I never had the opportunity to meet Mr. Nash but my husband used to clean his pool. My husband would always speak highly of him and told me how Mr. & Mrs. Nash were always so kind to him. They didn't treat him like an employee but, embraced him as a friend and would hang out by the pool with him and share stories of their past adventures and future endeavors. My deepest condolences go out to all who new Mr. Nash and I pray that you find solace and strength in your time of need.

We will remember Charles as a hard core fisherman, who loved to have a good time.

He would sit in the fighting chair and reel and be sick at the same time, but never stop until the fish was landed. As soon as the boat turned toward land the party started.

They would drive down from Fort Worth, fish the next two days, then drive back.

In the beginning in Port Aransas it was mostly Bart and his wife, Wynell & Charles, and Keith made it occasionally.

I was little, maybe 14-16, and deck handed and washed the boat for my dad. The first boat was a Pacemaker, the second a Bertram, that ended up in Ft. Lauderdale.

Good times then and it is nice to know he had further good times in life. We will miss him.

You dad was even more amazing than I realized ....I think we all remember you had the "coolest" parents ever...but it is sad to always learn how really outstanding they were is so many ways after they are gone. Those are amazing stories and accomplishments. I am sure you and all the family is so very proud. My hugs and prayers are with you!

So sad to see a special icon like Charles Nash III pass. What a dynamic personality. We knew his family - but were not close. I'll always remember that EACH time I saw him he was excited about (yet) another new adventure - talking to someone about it. His mind was always ticking, and he was always on the go. He will ALWAYS be known for waterski-ing and what he did to further that sport.

The happy and fun memories of Charles Nash will linger a very long time for so many. Charles made sure I had my supply of great music - every week I received several newly burned CDs of his latest music! The last few years I witnessed his love for Deborah, his family and the Bahamas. Life for all who knew him will be less one generous, loving and fun filled gentleman... We will continue to send the Nash family our love and prayers.

He was a fun and great person to work with.
Went deep sea fishing and caught large shark then not 5 minutes later he came out with life jacket and water ski. He actually jumped in the ocean and skied. Captain just shook his head. What fun times.
