Christopher Campbell Obituary

Arlington guitar legend, Christopher Douglas Campbell, died Tuesday, April 4, 2017 surrounded by his loving family and many friends. Celebration of LIfe: In celebration of his life, services will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 13, at Chris's church, United Christian Fellowship, 5015 New York Ave., Arlington, Texas, 76018, followed by Memorial Jam Session at 7:30 p.m. at J. Gilligan's, 400 E Abram St. Arlington. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to United Christian Fellowship. Chris's life was devoted to his love of his daughter, Whitney Campbell; his music; and God. Chris, a well-known, respected, and accomplished guitarist loved to play the blues, but could play anything. He was a resident of Arlington all of his life. He attended Stephen F. Austin University, but music prevailed over education. At Arlington High School, Chris and friends started his first band,The Extremes Playing Extremely Rancid Music Cheap. Chris never lost his unique sense of humor. Later The Wolf Brothers Band was formed, and they performed around the country. Chris could be heard playing at the White Elephant Saloon, or Greenville Avenue in Dallas with the Karen Bella Band. After moving to Colorado, Chris formed the ever famous, Fitsburg, Catfish, Stymie and Blester Band. Chris often played at the Mine Shaft in downtown Arlington, and, as all great musicians, played at the Cellar in both Dallas and Fort Worth. Most recently, Chris played with Wade and Glenda Hatten in The Texas Hat Band. He taught guitar and played with many artists in various venues and festivals around Texas and beyond. Chris played guitar every Sunday for the past five years at his church, United Christian Fellowship Arlington, where he was loved by all. Chris was known by all as a gentle, loving, artistic, kind and humble man with a deep faith and will be greatly missed. Survivors: He is survived by his daughter, Whitney Campbell; sister, Stevie Hansen; nephew, Jeff Hansen, his wife, Jacque, and three great-nephews, Grant, Ryan and Jason Hansen; nephew, Eric Hansen and wife, Michelle; and his family of choice, Jimmy Lewis, Doug Jaeger, Tommy Phillips, Jinx Neff, his godsons, Morgan and Tayler Neff, Wade and Glenda Hatten and many others.

I am so sorry to hear of Chris's passing. He was a great friend and co worker at my family owned Bingo Parlor years and years ago. He was so full of life and always laughing, I will forever remember his smile. My heart felt sympathies are with his family and friends.

Living out of town I was recently informed of Chris' passing and I was very saddened. Chris and I went to High School together and I was always infatuated with "bands." I loved music and Chris and the Extremes were my weekly fix at the Teen Dance at Meadowbrook Park along with The Unknowns. Chris was always so nice with a great sense of humor. I ran into him a few times over the decades at The Guitar Show in Dallas. We were always so happy to see each other.
Good by my friend, for now!

Chris was my older brother's age and of course, I had a huge crush on him, just left Kelly all the other girls. He was so cute and was made for the 60s.

Thank you all for the condolences and for attending the memorial service at UCF and the Jam Session at J Gilligan's. It was some of the best music I have heard in years. Since my little brother was such a fantastic musician, I am sort of a guitar snob. You have to really be good to get my attention after listening to Chris play for 50 years! And play they did. What a celebration of a man well loved. Thank you Tommy Phillips, Eric Hansen Jimmy Lewis, tommy Nash, Buddy Whittington, Wade and Glenda and all the other FANTASTIC musicians who played that night. I love you all and God Bless. Stevie

I was fortunate enough to play music with Chris for several years back in the 1980's. Chris was a terrific guy and an incredible musician. He will be missed by many.
