David Goodroe Obituary

David Courtney Goodroe, Sr., a devoted husband, father, and pillar of the Fort Worth community, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 3, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife, Melissa C. Goodroe, and their son, David Courtney (Court) Goodroe, Jr. He was 72 years old. David won a 6-year battle with Parkinson's and is now made perfect in the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and is in the presence of his Heavenly Father.

Born in Columbus, Georgia on May 11, 1953, David built a remarkable life grounded in faith, family, and service. After relocating to Fort Worth over 40 years ago for a Fortune 500 company, upon retirement, David pursued a successful career in residential construction. As President of Designs for Living, a residential design build firm in Fort Worth, David oversaw the remodel of over 2,000 projects in 33 years, transforming homes with his expertise and vision.

His professional dedication extended to community leadership, where he served on numerous nonprofit boards, including as Chair of Goodwill Industries of Fort Worth (now Goodwill North Central Texas), Chair of the Ronald McDonald House of Fort Worth, and Chair of the James L. West Center for Dementia Care. David also served on the boards of The Warm Place, the Fort Worth Library Foundation and the James L. West Center foundation, as well as the Cowtown Warriors Ball committee. Additionally, David was a member of the Fort Worth Stock Show Syndicate.

As a member of The Fort Worth Club, David contributed through various committees, including House, Membership and Outdoors Sports Club.

An avid outdoor sportsman, David loved to hunt and fish anywhere and everywhere he could gather a group of men to join the journey. His best experiences and conversations with God occurred in a deer stand, a bird blind or in the middle of the river with a fly rod.

A man of deep Christian faith, David lived out his beliefs through quiet acts of kindness, generosity, and service. He was an active member of McKinney Memorial Bible Church and later Christ Chapel Bible Church, where his involvement in outreach and community events inspired many.

His participation in Ministry Catalysts', Launching Multipliers mentorship program, reflected his commitment to invest in relationships with young men who were growing in their faith and committed to gaining the skills and wisdom that would enable them to encourage the spiritual growth of others, building lasting relationships.

David's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Melissa Clark Goodroe; his daughter Molly Kristen Goodroe Turney-Cheek; his son, David Courtney (Court) Goodroe, Jr.; his sisters,, Donna Goodroe Harris (Don), Janie Goodroe Lesh (Todd) and Molly Goodroe Snow; his grandchildren, Dawson Jess Turney and Alicia Kern Turney, David Courtney (Tre) Goodroe, III and Wesley Wells Goodroe; his great granddaughters, Bailey Blu Turney and Emrie Grace Turney; and a wide circle of friends, colleagues, and community members who cherished his warmth, humor, and unwavering support.

David was preceded in death by parents Barbara Ann Newman and Roswell Burt Goodroe.

A "Celebration of a Life Well Lived!", will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at The Fort Worth Club, followed by a reception.
