David Holland Obituary

David W. Holland GRAPEVINE -- Long time Fort Worth resident David W. Holland passed away Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018, at the age of eighty-eight. SERVICE: The family will receive guests at The Gardens Restaurant in the Fort Worth Botanic Garden, 3220 Rock Springs Road, on Saturday, Jan. 20th, between 3 and 6 p.m. He was born on April 27, 1929, to Rebecca Clements Holland and P.W. "Dutch" Holland in Raleigh, North Carolina. David graduated from Hugh Morson High School in Raleigh in 1947 and later enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1950-1960 attaining the rank of Captain. He was on the front lines during the Korean War from 1950-1954. He was a multi-engine jet rated pilot as well as an instrument flight instructor. He then went back to school and obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Business from the University of Texas and led a long successful career as an account executive with Merrill, Lynch, Pierce, Fenner and Smith. David was married to the love of his life Barbara Ellen Hatfield of Valley Mills, Texas on November 6, 1954. They had three children; a son, Jeff Holland, and two daughters, Susan (Holland) Schaub and Kathryn Holland. He was very dedicated to his family and will be sincerely missed by them. David enjoy a variety of hobbies including chess, golf, tennis and playing music on his violin, viola or cello in genres ranging from bluegrass to classical. SURVIVORS: He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Barbara Hatfield Holland, of Grapevine; his son, Jeff Holland of Portland, Oregon; his daughter, and son-in-law, Susan and David Schaub of Grapevine; his daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn Holland and Erik Palmer of Portland, Oregon; as well as eight grandchildren who referred to him fondly as 'Opa'.
