Funeral: 2 p.m. Friday at Hawkins Funeral Chapel. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Graveside service to be held in West Virginia.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Church of God building fund in Boyd, or for the Gideons.
Mr. Ferrell served in the Navy during World War II. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a Gideon, and started numerous square dancing clubs. He ran for two terms for Wise County Commissioner in Precinct #3.
Survivors: Wife, Bettsy Ferrell; sons, Dennis Alan Ferrell, and Michael Ray Ferrell and wife, Vickie; daughters, Carol Ann Ferrell, Barbara Price, Dorothy and Elizabeth Ferrell; stepsons, Dr. Moumin Quazi, Rahim Quazi and wife, Michele, David Fidler Jr. and wife Rifat; 17 grandchildren; 3 stepgrandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, William Earl, Johnny, and Richard David Ferrell; and sister, Iota Gail Kennedy.

Uncle Fred gave me a lot since we have been down here. He gave me love and understanding, he helped us by encouraging us to strive to be the best we could be. All in all this is worth more than any amount of money in this world. I will miss him.
