George Ceshker Obituary

George Joseph Ceshker, 101, passed peacefully surrounded by Family on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 26, at his home, 3613 Granada Drive,, Richland Hills, Texas. Born in Wisconsin to German immigrants, he grew up on his family dairy farm. While working in the fields, his lifelong love of aviation was born as he gazed above at the airplanes on approach to Milwaukee. He purchased his first airplane before he had even flown in an airplane by trading one of his motorcycles which he raced on the track and hill climbing. World War II brought him to Fort Worth as a Flight Instructor in B-25s at Hicks Field. After the War, he was one of the first pilots at Central Airlines flying out of Meacham Field. Central later merged with Frontier Airlines, and he retired as a Captain in the 737 in 1975. He remained active in aviation licensing hundreds of pilots in both fixed wing and gliders. He owned Piper Cubs, Cessna, Stearman bi-plane and an AT-6 aircraft. Colonel Ceshker frequently flew in the Confederate Air Force air shows. At the age of 94, the FAA awarded him The Wright Brothers "Master Pilot" Award for professionalism, skill and aviation expertise for at least 50 years. He was a member of a Breakfast Club for years where the staff of Dixie House Cafe treated them like family. A special thanks to all of the people who helped Dad live in his home of 61 years, including Laura Merritt, Joe Brown, neighbors B.J., Rhonda, Juhl and Michelle, caregivers Stephanie and Tracie, everyone at Senior Health Clinic at North Hills Hospital, and towards the end, the Hospice Community Care and Overture caregivers. Without all of their help, his sons could not have fulfilled their promise to their Dad that he would leave this World from his home. Survivors: He is survived by sons, George Jr., Greg and his wife, Mary; grandson, Alan; and numerous great-grandchildren. His companion and friend for decades, Reba Ratliff, survived him and many of her family who had become his family.

I was part of the breakfast club for a while, until life interfered. I could not always attend , but I always enjoyed the time I spent with George, Reba, Mary and Jack. During my training for my Private certificate, I flew with several Central airlines pilots, a great bunch. Then, much later in life, I met other people, including George, that were former Central People. The stories were great, as were the conversations. He will be missed

Dear Children and Friends of George, my Pilot,

This was years ago the Methodist Church in Fort Worth always on Sunday afternoon dancing for single peoples to dance, get acquainted and enjoy their fun time for us to have. The church provided cold drinks and snacks for us to have. This is where I met George and his dancing was out of this world. He was a divorced man with two sons but wanting to have good times. We dated a couple of times and my companies Christmas Parties. George was a gentleman to me and I always enjoyed his company. He was also twenty years older and my life was just beginning to enjoy my life with other men. He was a teaser too by my not loving the airplanes like he did, the enjoyment of the world could see in the sky.

George is happy in heaven with Our Lord Jesus and having his angel wings silver to fly on in heaven to many places...there are many mansions in heaven to check them out.

Love and Prayers,

Deepest sympathies to the family including the extended family in his life. I will always remember him as strong and handsome in his uniform at Easter and Thanksgiving holidays. A memory shared by my mother (his youngest sister) of how proud she was when he would give her a ride to school on his motorcycle. Then later to begin teaching her to ride only to be interrupted by the war. Prayers with you all. Ellen Vervoort

George gave me flying instructions in a Luscome 8A and a Piper Cub. He was the most calm person I have ever known despite my terrible flying. Some how I managed to get my private license but it would have never happened without him. I have always had pleasant memories of those early flying days.
