Funeral: 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Chapel. Entombment: Greenwood Mausoleum. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Funeral Home.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Gus' name.
Gus was born Oct. 6, 1927, in Fort Worth. He graduated from the Allen Academy and attended Texas Christian University. He also served in the Navy and was a Shriner. He took over the family owned laundry and dry cleaning business and started the successful California Leather Cleaners. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and hiking in Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Katherine Hoffman Gavrel; father and mother, James Gus and Panani Gavrel.
Survivors: Wife of 13 years, Tommie Gavrel of Fort Worth; sons, Bobbie Gavrel of Weatherford, Gus Gavrel Jr. and wife, Beverly and Carl Gavrel of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Katie, Colt, Bo and Buck Gavrel; stepsons, Scott Kerr and wife, Christy and Shawn Kerr and wife, Julia; step grandchildren, Justin, Hagen, Brandon, Baliegh, Lawryn and Jacob Kerr; sisters, Helen Leggett and husband, James of Fort Worth, Marguerite Sideris of Omaha, Neb. and Barbara Petrutsas of Houston; numerous nieces; nephews; and loyal companion, his dog GiGi.

I was saddened by the passing of Gus. Although I met him and Tommie only a couple of times, my daughter, Shae, enjoyed their friendship for several years. My sympathy to the family.
