I attended Southwest High School with Heather. I only had her in my art class. I was a very cold and lonesome person due to my uobringing, but I distinctly remember Heather was insistent on speaking to to me even though I was not good at talking back. Most other students who tried would eventually disengage, feeling I wanted to be left alone or right want to talk to them. Heather never gave up, in spite of her friend's insistence that she was bothering me, and though I never warmed up to or ended up becoming friends with her, those memories stuck with me years after graduation. When I regretted as an adult not being more social as a teenager, Heather was the first person I always thought of.

I learned of her passing a few years later. Heather clearly had a kind heart, as I can say that noone in school attempted to reach me the way she did. Learning what became of her filled me with sorrow. It felt as though I have failed her forever. I'm more outgoing in modern times, and I dearly wish that I could show it to her.

When Heather was born, it was my great pleasure to deliver her. All through the years of her short life, I watched her grow and was so proud of this independent little girl. She was just turning into a beautiful young lady, when she was taken away from us. I love you Nikki, and miss you very much... Dad

To the parents of Heather,
Your daughter was a friend of my son, Paul. We are grieving with you. We are left with the impression of a young lady who was at ease with the world. From the first minute we met she acted as if she had known our family forever. We will miss her.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

My brother and I were friends of Heather when we attended Southwest. My brother was outraged to hear what had happened to her, but misses her deeply. I knew her through friends and after I graduated she would stop by my car every now and then to say hi and to see my son. She will be missed greatly.

Heather was a talented and bright young lady who often made me laugh. She was a shining star at Ft. Worth CAN! Academy and it was a privilege to be one of her teachers. I was really proud of her most recent accomplishment as a 2006-2007 high school graduate. Now she is in GOD's hands. May your family be comforted by the Holy Spirit and friends in such a time as this. Abundant Blessings,
