Jack Newsome Obituary

Jack Bigham Newsome

February 5, 1936 - March 12, 2025

Stillwater, Oklahoma - Jack Bigham Newsome, 89 passed away March 12, 2025, in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Jack was born February 5, 1936, in Ft. Worth, Texas. He was a graduate of Arlington Heights High School with the class of 1954. He attended the University of Houston on a football and baseball scholarship and received a B.A. in Business Administration in 1958.

Jack married his love and high school sweetheart, Shirley Wood, December 22, 1956. He was the retired President of 3 oilfield service companies and Executive Vice-President of an Independent Oil Producer. Jack served on several Oil and Gas Boards and was past President of Shady Oaks Country Club. Golf was an integral part of his life, and he was a former member of the North Texas PGA advisory board.

Jack always said he grew up in the greatest generation and insisted the following thoughts be included in his obituary: "I thank God every day that I married Shirley. I was blessed to have had two sons that I am extremely proud of. They gave us beautiful grandchildren to love and truly helped us live a blessed life." Jack never abandoned God and was a Christian until the end.

Jack is survived by his wife, Shirley, son Ashley and wife Brooke and her son Kade, daughter Taylor and husband Justin, the parents of his great-grandchildren Kennedy and Colt. His son, Jeff and wife Beverly and their three children, Sara, Anna and Jack.

He was a devoted father to Ashley and Jeff and was a consistent encourager, mentor and mediator for their entire lives. His grandchildren remember his humor, cooking skills, laughter and famous Root Beer Floats before bedtime.

Sad this great guy is gone, he´s not forgotten!

I am so sorry to learn of the passing of Jack. I handled his commercial insurance for 11 years. Even though I only spoke to him once a year at renewal, he was very kind and so polite to me. I can tell from his obituary that he was a wonderful man. My thoughts and my prayers are with each family member.

My thoughts and prayers are with Shirley and all of Jack's family. I was Jack's loan officer at Fort Worth National Bank and Texas American Bank. He was such a pleasure to work with, and I enjoyed our trips to Oklahoma to visit the company's oil and gas properties. We shared many great moments, both professional and personal. Jack was always a true professional and respected business leader and, most important, a devoted family man. Most of all, I considered Jack my dear friend.
RIP Dear Friend.
