James Hill Obituary

James Robert "Bob" Hill REVISED FORT WORTH -- On April 2, 2018, Fort Worth lost an Eagle Mountain Lake native. James Robert "Bob" Hill peacefully passed away in his family home on the lake with his loving wife of 48 years, Judy Moates Hill, by his side. Bob had suffered from cancer for several years and spent the weeks leading up to his passing surrounded by friends and family; he was 89 years old. CELEBRATION OF LIFE: More than anything, Bob loved a grand gathering of family and good friends. Please join us in the celebration of his life on April 5, 2018 from 1 to 4 p.m. at 4024 Edgehill Rd. Fort Worth, 76116. MEMORIALS: In honor of Bob's memory and in lieu of flowers, please donate to the Eagle Mountain Volunteer Fire Department @ www.eaglemountainfire.org. A man of many firsts, Bob's proud to claim that he was the first baby boy born in Cook Children's Hospital on March 23, 1929 to parents, Houston and Emma Hill. The first to see Eagle Mountain Lake fill with water from the steps of his family home. He opened one of the first diving schools in the Fort Worth area in the early 1950's. He was a pioneer in ranching and farming, earning a conservation award in the 1960's and an avid participant in the petroleum community where he dedicated his entire life. Born into an oil and gas family, Bob grew up learning about petroleum and entrenched himself in the family business early on. He attended the University of Texas and earned a degree in Petroleum Engineering. Business flourished, and he was a member of several organizations including the Society of Petroleum Engineers and Texas Exes. Bob was an avid adventurer who appreciated a good party, of which he had much experience. In his early years he enjoyed sailing and racing boats, ranching, farming, and dove hunting. A man who could not be left with idle hands, he was a tinkerer and handyman of many varieties, with a passion for carpentry (as evidenced by his missing fingers). Always in search of an eventful evening, he and his wife were members of a number of social clubs including the Fort Worth Boat Club, the Fort Worth Club, the City Club of Fort Worth and the Petroleum Club of Fort Worth. Bob had a passion for travel and adventured around the world with his wife, Judy and their dogs, Totsy, Totsy 2 and Bitsy. Much of his travels were spent in Mexico where he loved to entertain at his home in Acapulco. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Houston and Emma Hill; and grandson, Nevada Hill. SURVIVORS: Sister, Glenn Lattimore; wife, Judy Moates Hill; daughter, Karen Hill Sokol and husband, Chris; son, Houston Hill and wife, Sheila; daughter, Nancy Hill; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and myriads of extended family and friends.

It was a privilege to know Bob Hill. He had a great personality and loved a good party. I will always remember the good times on Bob and Judy's patio in Acapulco with all their friends. Judy and Bob were the best host and hostess ever. Thanks for the memories.

It was a privilege for Jan and me to be friends with and to enjoy the company of Bob and Judy. Our time spent in Acapulco was greatly improved spent on the patio of their home there. I enjoyed sitting with him and discussing all manner of things about which Bob was both informed and had interesting insights. He had a great sense of humor both about life as well as himself. It was a benefit to us to keep him stocked with westerns to watch. He will be very greatly missed and Acapulco will be that much less without him there.
