Jason Gross

1973 - 2018

Jason Alex Gross, born November 8, 1973, passed away suddenly at his home on September 16, 2018. A 1992 graduate of Essex High School, Jason played football, baseball and basketball. He also played baseball at Longwood University. Jason served in the U.S. Army as a combat medic, first in Korea and then in the War in Iraq. Among his awards are the Army Commendation Medal with Valor and the Purple Heart, earned during his service in Ramadi, Iraq. He was an avid duck hunter, golfer, and home cook, who had been a registered nurse since graduating from Rappahannock Community College in 2017. He most recently worked as a skilled nurse at the Riverside Rehabilitation Center at The Orchard in Warsaw. He previously worked as a manager at Lowe's in Tappahannock. He was beloved by those in the community where he lived. He is survived by his mother, Deborah Gross McIntire; his wife, Angela Garland Gross; two children, Hannah and Tristan Gross; three brothers, Butch Gross (Sheri), Michael and Phillip McIntire; nieces and nephews, Larkin and Arria Gross, Mikhayla Kushner and John Harper. Donations may be made in Jason's memory to either Montross Animal Shelter, P O Box 1000, Montross, VA 22520 or Essex Animal Shelter, 540 Airport RD, Tappahannock, VA 22560. Funeral services were held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 22, 2018 in the Essex High School Auditorium. Interment will be private. The family received friends from 4-6 p.m. Friday in the Faulkner Funeral Home, Marks-Bristow Chapel, Tappahannock. Michael McIntire, Phillip McIntire, Larkin Gross, Philip Iovino, Jeremy Horne, Pepper Ailor, and John Harper served as pallbearers.
