Linda Carr Barker
July 25, 2024
Fort Worth, Texas - Ms. Linda Carr Barker passed away peacefully at Heart to Heart Hospice in Fort Worth, surrounded by her loving family, on July 25, 2024. She was born on August 9, 1937 to Virginia and Russell Carr, in Wichita Falls, Texas and she was always the light of their lives. Graduating from Wichita Falls High School in 1955, she went on to attend TCU, graduating in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science in Education.
While at TCU she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. While attending TCU she met her future husband and the father of her three beautiful daughters. After graduating from TCU she taught first grade for a couple of years and loved every minute! She married in 1960 and was the ultimate stay at home mom for about twenty years.
Linda made everything fun! Picnics in the park, making Halloween costumes, driving many carpools, and being a fearless leader of Blue Birds and Camp Fire Girls. She was even a substitute teacher where she made life fun for many students in multiple schools. Never losing her sense of humor or Faith in God, she endured some challenging times. She always said you can't have the good without the bad or the flowers without the rain and God will always shine through!
Linda returned to the working world in about 1980 as quite a force of nature! She began her second career as a Public Relations Administrator for Planned Parenthood, followed by Executive Producer of the Charlie Rose Show. She went on to be the Executive Director of the Tarrant County Youth Collaboration, the Arthritis Foundation and Volunteers of America. She served as Chairperson of the City of Fort Worth Plan Commission, was a member of the Mayor's Council of Status of Women, Leadership Fort Worth, Grant Review Committee of the North Texas Council of Governments and was a United Way Hercules Nominee. Linda was a member of St. Andrew's Anglican Church, St. Andrew's Alter Guild, Junior League, Roundelay, Jewel Charity Ball and was involved in several other organizations and agencies throughout Tarrant County and North Texas; too many to list.
By the time she retired she had made a positive impact on people of all walks of life, young and old. She loved people, always liked to be involved in the community and then became a docent at the Kimball Art Museum for eleven years. She tried her best to never miss out on lunches, dinners, poker nights and other adventures with longtime friends. Linda was also known as "Nana" to her seven grandkids and four great grandkids. She never missed any sort of celebration with her daughters and grandkids, if she could help it.
She had countless friends, many of whom she considered family as well, including but not limited to the Crazy Old Bridge Club (who haven't played bridge in years), the Lunch Bunch, and the Four Travelers who went on many wonderful adventures together. One of her favorite adventures was when she went with them to the Rose Bowl in 2011, when TCU won! Her silliness and laughter will remain in our hearts forever and she will surely be missed by all who knew and loved her. Especially her three best friends; Pam, Alison & DeeDee.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Virginia and Russell Carr, and her son-in-law, Dave Wise.
She is survived by Pamela (Mark) Hertel, Alison Wise and DeeDee (Kurtt) Wix. Her grandchildren include, Hannah Hertel, Skylar (Nicholas) Wellbaum, Nicholas (Jenny) Wise, Allyson (Richard) Anderson, Mary Wix, Kurtt II "K2" (Claire) Wix and Fred (Payton) Wix. Her great grandchildren include Dylan Anderson, Emery Wix, Ethan Meadows, Aurora Wix and the father of her children, Bruce Barker.
Linda's Celebration of Life will be at 3 p.m. on Wednesday August 7, 2024 at The Tradition, 5755 Clearfork Main Street Fort Worth, Texas 76109. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice, a
charity of choice, or by performing a random act of kindness for someone in need. God bless.
