Logan Peschel Obituary

Logan Milton Peschel, 85, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010. Service: 10 a.m. Friday in Laurel Land Memorial Chapel with Dr. Jim Conner and the Rev. Ginger Watson officiating. Interment: Laurel Land Memorial Park of Fort Worth. Visitation: The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Laurel Land Funeral Home. Memorials: Expressions of sympathy may be made to Genesis United Methodist Church Building Fund, 7635 S. Hulen, Fort Worth, Texas 76133. Logan was born Sept. 22, 1925, on a farm outside Schwertner to Louis and Hedwig "Hattie" Beyer Peschel. He had three sisters, Wilma, Viola and Irene, and three brothers, Stanley, Calvin and Franklin. The family moved to Granger, where he attended school. He turned 18 in his senior year and was drafted. He served in the Army Infantry 106th Division, called the "Golden Lions." In 1944, the 106th Division traveled through France and Belgium and arrived at the Ardennes Front. It was the newest Allied Division on any front and entirely new to battle. On Dec. 16, 1944, Logan and his fellow soldiers were in the path of the greatest German attack, the Battle of the Bulge. Gen. Patton's 4th Armored Division and 2nd Armored Division helped break the bulge, but the battle was almost entirely a soldier's battle won by the thousands of fighting American infantry, and Logan was one of them. His love for his country was great throughout his life. Logan came to Fort Worth and began working for Convair (which preceded General Dynamics and now Lockheed Martin) on Sept. 17, 1948. He worked on the wings and landing gear of the B-36, B-58, F-111 and F-16. He retired in 1992 after 43 years. Logan married Margie Barnes in Granger on April 16, 1955, and they began their life together, raising two daughters, Penny and Patti. Grandchildren Jaclyn, Blake and Emily were the joy of his life. No man could love and support a family more. Logan's greatest pleasure was running. He ran his first marathon at age 48. He ran over the years 11 marathons (26.2 miles) and was first in his age group in seven of the marathons. His best time in a marathon at age 52 was 3 hours and 8 minutes, 28 seconds. In 1976, the 200th anniversary of the United States, Logan completed 1,776 miles in the "Spirit of '76 Jog," and his name is entered in the National Jogging Association Hall of Fame in Washington, D.C. Logan was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Wilma Klett Sagebiel and Irene Johle; and brothers, Stanley Peschel and Calvin Peschel. Survivors: Wife, Margie B. Peschel, M.D.; daughters, Penny Winters and Patti Rosas; grandchildren, Blake Hinckley, Jaclyn Rosas and Emily Winters Peters; brother, Franklin Peschel and wife, Marjorie; sister, Viola White; sister-in-law, Lea Peschel; and a host of other precious family and special friends.
