Mabel Dingee Obituary

Mabel Eugene Crum Dingee died peacefully at her Fort Worth home Wednesday, July 13, 2011. Mabel left this earth and physical life to be with God and His Son, Jesus Christ, in heaven. Service: 10 a.m. Saturday at Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home. The Rev. Verne Fuqua will officiate. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials: Her memory may be honored with a gift to West of the Pecos Museum, Box 1784, Pecos, Texas 79772. Mabel was born in Pecos on Oct. 28, 1914, to Tom Crum, a West Texas rancher, and his wife, Bess Eddins Crum. She had six siblings. Mabel was a beautiful person inside and out. She was chosen to represent Pecos and West Texas in many state events. She attended Texas Tech University. In 1937 she met her beloved husband, Henry Lewis Dingee Jr., a member of a Fort Worth pioneer family. They returned to Fort Worth in 1942. They raised four children and resided in Fort Worth for 69 years. Mabel was a woman of great faith; her faith is what sustained her. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and a devoted friend, loving each person in her life unconditionally. Mabel was a longtime member of St. John's Episcopal Church, where she loved her work in St. Mary's Guild. She was active in all areas of her children's lives. Her grandchildren were her "pride and joy." She lived a long, rich and good life, smiling and glorifying the Lord until the end. She was greatly loved and revered, and will be missed every day by many. Special thanks to her faithful, devoted and excellent caregivers, "The A Team," Aida Enrriques, Lourdes Dixon, Rhonda Urdiales and Delia Garcia. Also to her incredible doctors, Dr. Harish Dhingra, Dr. Robert Taffel and son-in-law, Dr. Don Johnston, The Professional Hospice Team and Kris, her RN. Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Henry. Survivors: Son, Henry L. Dingee III; daughters, Barbara Harris and husband, Jerry, Diane Rutledge and husband, Mike, and Jane Johnston and husband, Don; grandchildren, Kristen Brown and husband, Jeb, Brennen Harris and wife, Cori, Chad Rutledge and wife, Lisa, and Channing and Lauren Johnston; "special daughter No. 4," Sandra Thomas; her nephews and cousins, "the boys"; and her sweet nieces and friends she loved dearly.

Funny how words, objects, even a day can trigger a faded memory. A song, a touch, a scent can put the mind where the body used to be.
Feels like time stands still & for a moment you can't breathe. Thoughts of remembrance take over, wanting to touch what only the mind can see.
Exhale as you snap back into reality. Heartaches as your left with only a faded memory...
"I'll never forget you" Love always, your pal

Some times it takes a dark tunnel to lead u to the light. May stumble & fall @ times due to lack of sight.
As you reach the end, you see & feel the warmth from a bright glare. Then u faintly see silhouettes of your loved one's waiving, guiding you there...
"Well Ms. Mabel, you finally made it home! What a journey that was, one long & bumpy road. Know you were so excited to see mother, Myrtle, Lillian & J.Y. Even tho it hurt my heart that we had to say our good bye. Truly admired you lady, all the way to the last hour. You'll always be my "pal", my Mabel, my "sweet & sour". You told me God sent me to you but actually think he sent you to me. You hold a special place in my heart lady & may you forever rest in peace."

We are so sad to learn of your loss, Jane, Don, Lauren, and Channing, and all of the Dingee family. Your sweet mom/grandmother was a beautiful, elegant woman, and I'm grateful to have known her. Even though we'd not seen Mabel in many, many years, I will always remember her as a classy, and dear woman. Love to you all, Jineen and Mike

Mabel was one of my dearest relatives who I loved very much. My husband and I always enjoyed our visits with her and having her share all the wonderful memories she had growing up in Pecos. Her stories were fascinating. I will miss her, but I am happy she is now in a better place.

Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family, friends and all who knew my Aunt Mabel. She always had an encouraging word, knew just what to say to make things better, had humor and a beaming beautiful smile to match. The stories she told of old and new will always be cherished. She was always so good to us. My sister, Becky was right, she was an angel on this earth. We will always love and never forget her.

What a beautiful tribute to a beautiful woman. I am sure it is my loss that I did not know Mabel, but as Tarrant County Archivist I had opportunity to talk about the Dingee and Holloway families just last night, so someone had alerted me to this notice of a loss to our community. I shall certainly archive it. God Bless. Dawn Youngblood, PhD [email protected]
