Matt Long Obituary

Matt T. Long Jr. died of natural causes Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at 11:20 p.m. in Grapevine.

Funeral: 11 a.m. Saturday at Hartman Funeral Home in McComb, Miss. The Rev. Ted Bowlin and the Rev. Bob Lynch will officiate.

Memorials: Matt requested that, in lieu of flowers, all donations be sent to IHS Nursing Home, 459 Keller Parkway, Keller, Texas 76248.

Matt Jr. was born in Amite County, Miss., on Oct. 3, 1924. He was a member of the U.S. Air Force in 1949 and retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture after 27 years of service. He was a member of the American Checkers Federation and held the state championship for two years in Mississippi and one year in Louisiana. Matt was a member of Central Baptist Church in McComb, Miss.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Vivian Nunery Wells; father, Matt Long Sr.; stepbrother, Marvin Long; and stepsister, Annette Long Giacone.

Survivors: His wife, Lois Baham Kanode Long of Keller; stepson, Leonard Cecil Kanode and wife, Nell Kanode, of Keller; stepdaughter, Lois Kanode Rodenberry and husband, Howard Rodenberry, of Carlys, La.; brother, Jim Long of McComb, Miss.; stepmother, Annette Long of McComb, Miss.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
