Michael Blackburn Obituary

Michael Coleman Blackburn

April 2, 1951 - October 25, 2024

Fort Worth, Texas - It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Michael Coleman Blackburn. Michael, 73, of Fort Worth, TX went home to be with his heavenly father on October 25, 2024.

Mike was born April 2, 1951 in Paris, Texas to Jean and Ira Blackburn. During middle school, they moved to Amarillo where Mike enjoyed playing football, fishing and working at the stockyards. He forged many strong friendships that carried on for many years after his graduation in 1969.

Upon graduation, Mike moved to Fort Worth to attend Texas Christian University where he was a part of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. It was at TCU where he met his future wife, Debra. They met in 1971 and married in 1974. After graduation, they stayed in Fort Worth and started a family. Mike loved to spend time with his family outdoors. He introduced his kids to hunting, fishing, camping and sports. Those experiences continue to live on in his children and grandchildren today.

Mike worked as a salesman for most of his adult life where he would be recognized for providing excellent service and forging lifelong friendships. Mike was a humble servant with a huge heart. His actions always spoke louder than his words. He spent countless hours giving back. Whether it was volunteering at church or delivering food to the elderly through Meals on Wheels, Mike always had a smile on his face and loved helping others.

During his retirement, he and his wife, Debra were able to travel and spend time with their 6 grandchildren. His favorite vacation spot with Debra was the mountains. They took numerous trips to Colorado and Wyoming where their relationship continued to blossom. He loved hiking, white-water rafting, fly fishing, and enjoying the nice weather with his best friend who just so happened to be his wife.

He was a devoted husband, father and follower of Jesus. He and Debra celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. When people think about Mike, they will remember a patient and humble man who always put others first. Debra stood by him until the very end, her love was unconditional. He will be missed

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Jean and Ira.

He is survived by wife, Debra Blackburn; son, Coleman Blackburn; son , Bret Blackburn and wife, Courtney; daughter, Taylor Fields and husband, Ross; grandchildren, Georgia Blackburn, Ben Blackburn, Addison Blackburn, Brady Blackburn, Charley Fields, and Sullivan Fields; mother-in-law, Peggy Burgess; brother and sister-in-law, Chris and Vicki Stellar; sister-in-law, Shannon Burgess; sister, Cathy Moore and husband, Fred; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mike's life will be celebrated on Friday, November 1, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. The memorial will be held in Greenwood's Live Oak Chapel, 3100 White Settlement Rd., Fort Worth, Texas 76107; followed by a reception from 1 - 3 p.m.

We grew up with Mike in Amarillo. He was in our wedding in 1970. His father, Ira, was my father´s banker and I used to see Ira at Dallas Market. Mike was hilarious, a bit wild as were we and so much fun. Love to his family.
