Michael Alan Scott, 62, of Hurst lost his courageous battle with recently diagnosed brain cancer Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013. Michael wanted direct cremation without funeral or ceremony and said, "If someone wishes to remember me by raising a glass, that would be perfect." Memorials: Any donations as a memorial to Michael may be sent directly to the NRA, ASPCA or Wounded Warrior Project. Michael was born Aug. 1, 1951, to Willard and Dorothy Scott. He attended Central Missouri State in Warrensburg. He had 23 years of service as a commissioned peace officer in Missouri, Kansas and Texas. Michael was certified by the Texas Department of Public Safety as a concealed handgun license instructor and was certified by the NRA as a range safety officer as well as an instructor in basic pistol and personal protection. The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education certified Michael as an instructor and master peace officer. After his family, Michael's first love was his affiliation with the law enforcement and Second Amendment communities. As a retired police detective from Euless and Coppell, Michael cherished his right to carry firearms, achieved his dream of becoming a licensed concealed handgun instructor and started his own company, Apex Firearm Training Center. He loved his CHL students, always being available to answer questions anytime. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Willard Scott. Survivors: Mother, Dorothy Johnson; his wife and best friend of 36 years, Gail Scott; brothers, J.R. Scott and wife, Betty, and Patrick Scott and wife, Shirley; his children, Dawn Fredrickson and her husband, Tucker, Lori Scott and her fiance, Jeff Green, and Michael J. Scott and his wife, Amy; grandchildren, Seth Fredrickson and Drew, Brody and Rosalie Scott; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and his beloved German shepherd, MacGyver.
