Mona Ruth Strawn Berry, 78, of Athens was taken to her eternal life in heaven Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016. Memorial service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at St. Matthias' Episcopal Church in Athens. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Matthias' Episcopal Church or a charity of choice. Mona was born Nov. 29, 1937, in Fort Worth to the late E.J. and Bertie Boydston Strawn. She graduated in 1954 from Grapevine High School, where she was active in band, choir and pep squad. She worked at Central Freight Line where she was the secretary for T.H. Callan. She married the late Bobby Dalton Berry in 1957 and later moved to Athens, where she worked at KBUD radio until she retired. She was a member of the Henderson County Art Club and St. Matthias' Episcopal Church. She enjoyed many things: painting, music, the beach and shopping with her sisters and friends. Mona was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Mona was preceded in death by her sisters, Delois Ann Bentle and Margie Sue Zachary. Survivors: Children, Laura Berry of Athens and Paul Berry of Tyler; nieces, Cheryl Zachary of Houston and Carol Smith of Keller; grandchildren, Jeffery and Kelly Berry of Tyler, Amanda and Michael Wilson of Athens, Jordan Berry of Austin, Amy and Jonathan Miller of Athens; and eight great-grandchildren.
