Morgan Woodruff
August 5, 1937 - February 7, 2021
Aledo, Texas - Born Aug. 5th, 1937 in Austin, Texas, Morgan Woodruff left his legacy in Decatur, Arlington, Fort Worth, and ultimately finished his race in Annetta North on Feb. 7, 2021. He was Texas born and Texas bred and couldn't have been more proud of that fact.
Morgan graduated from Decatur High School in 1955, where he held the school's long jump record for many years with a leap of 19' 6". From Decatur, he headed to Baylor University, where he graduated with double major in English and History. And from Waco, Morgan enlisted in the United States Army, where he would proudly serve in Texas and Germany from 1960 to 1966.
After a couple of stints in graduate and law school, Morgan started his career at Higginbotham Insurance in 1970 as one of two agents. Over the next 50 years, he was a proud part of their growth into one of the nation's 100 largest independent brokers, retiring on the Board of Directors and serving as the Managing Director of Business Insurance.
In Aug. 1971, Morgan married his princess, Karolyn Harris. From start to finish, Morgan absolutely adored Karolyn and worked hard to make her life easy. Funny, but it wasn't until Morgan's health began to decline, that Karolyn had to learn how to put gas in her own vehicle! Morgan and Karolyn raised two children and thoroughly spoiled their grand kids. They enjoyed traveling and whether it was Paris, Texas or Paris, France, they loved to experience the local culture and cuisine.
While Morgan loved his family, country, and Texas, his greatest love was for his Lord and that love grew deeper the longer he lived. If the church doors were open, he was there, but his service went beyond rigid observance. He would give the shirt off his back to meet a need and donated regularly to ministries too numerous to list. Morgan was a member at Birchman Baptist Church for the past 45 years and taught adult Sunday School for most of that time. He so loved teaching and would spend hours preparing and writing out his lessons. His love for God's Word was reflected in his many years of service with Gideons International, which he faithfully supported since 1979. Morgan spoke countless times in churches all around Texas to stir interest in the scripture and to raise money so that Bibles could be given out all over the world. It's comforting to know that he is in the presence of Jesus, serving alongside his many friends and family who preceded him.
So many additional aspects describe him. He loved trains and traveled from Canada to New Zealand to ride them. Never without his cowboy hat and boots, he had a deep respect for that way of life and loved reading about the old west. He was an American patriot and read every biography there is about our country's greatest leaders. He was a master of the English language and could impress anyone with his deep, resonant voice.
Morgan was preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Ethelyne Woodruff and his infant twin sister. Left to cherish his life are his wife, Karolyn; daughter Ginger (Kevin); son Michael (Kelli); and grandchildren Connor (Katie), Gracie, and Sophie.
