Phyllis Rowan Obituary

Phyllis Hobbs Rowan, 79, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at her west side home. With her were her daughter and grandson. Graveside service: 2 p.m. Saturday in Greenwood Memorial Park. Pallbearers: Blake Elliott, Pat Ferchill, Joe Minton, Charlie Webster, Dr. David Beyer, Douglas More, George Young, Brent Hyder, Peter More and Sam More. Honorary pallbearers: Ben Fortson, John McCrimmon and Dr. Robert Turner. Memorials: Contributions may be made to a charity of choice. Phyllis was born Aug. 19, 1931, in Arkansas to Phillip Brown and Mabel Maureen Hobbs. She was a graduate of Sophie Newcomb and attended Texas Christian University. A longtime resident of Fort Worth, she was formerly married to William Albert Rowan. Phyllis was involved with the Van Cliburn in its formative years and loved her bridge group, traveling, reading and movies. A special thanks to Barbara Jackson and Blanca Builtron, who served her so well over the years. Survivors: Daughters, Kelly Greenwell and husband, Paul, of Fort Worth and Leigh Hultgren and husband, Howard, of Seattle; grandchildren, Blake Elliott, Jordan Elliott Lerum and Hope, Natalie and Nicole Hultgren; and other cherished family members, Martha Hyder, Whitney More, Douglas More, Sam More, Peter More, Brent Hyder, Lily Leuth, Patty Lowdon and Mathew Hyder.

Phyllis , was the most genuine, funniest person I ever met in my life. She always made you feel special. I will always appreciate her being so gracious and kind to me. She was, truly, special.
