Kirk Askew Larkin (Oda) May 28, 1938 – March 7, 2026 Kirk Askew Larkin (Oda) was born May 28, 1938, in Saint Louis, Missouri, to W. H. Larkin III and Francis (Sue) Askew Larkin. He passed away on March 7, 2026, at his home, The GnO.
Kirk moved to Waxahachie in 1955 and graduated from Waxahachie High School. He then attended Texas Christian University, graduating in 1962. During his time at TCU, he was a member of the ROTC program. Upon graduation, he was commissioned into the United States Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant and served as a Weapons Director for nineteen years. During his distinguished military career, he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, and the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, and was nominated for the Silver Star in recognition of his service and dedication.
In 1963, he married the love of his life, Peggy J. Lusk. After their marriage, they began a whirlwind of traveling overseas. During this time, they welcomed two daughters, Denny and Angie. In 1974, Kirk and his family returned to Waxahachie. After moving back, Kirk entered the insurance business in 1976 and operated Lynn D. Lasswell & Co. Insurance for many years, establishing strong ties within Waxahachie and the surrounding communities. Throughout his life, Kirk was always someone people could count on—he liked to be ready to help whenever and however he could.
Kirk retired in 2002. Shortly after his retirement, he and Peggy made a special purchase at the KBEC Radio Flea Market in 2006. This is where they spent their later years, pouring their heart and soul into the land they purchased. They created a place where their family—and anyone for that matter—could gather and simply be together.
Kirk was preceded in death by his mother, Francis (Sue) Larkin, in 1980; his father, W. H. Larkin, in 1995; and his wife, Peggy, in 2015.
He is survived by his daughters, Denny Alexander (Brian) and Angie Wallace (Mike); his siblings, Mike Larkin, Bill Larkin (Judy), and Ann Esselman (Dwight) and sister in law Gail Larkin. He leaves behind six grandchildren: Sara Meazell, Matthew Behning, Larkin Alexander (Tiffany), Katy Behning (Bruno), Kendall McClain, and Gabriel Alexander (Lexi). He also leaves great-grandchildren Olivia, Meason, Beau, Paisley, Audrey, Harper, and Blake.
In his spare time, Kirk loved coming into town and visiting local businesses where he had made friends, he considered family, including The Pub, Two Amigos, Cotton Patch, The Prescription Shop, and CVS.
When Kirk was not traveling to and fro, he used his prior military discipline to keep up with his family. He embraced technology with grace and became extremely proficient with the “Find My” app. We always knew that Oda was tracking us and that he was with us.
The family would like to recognize and extend their gratitude to Sharron Kelly, Dave and Shana Miller, Mike Behning (Angela), and Kara Lanning. Thank you for always treating Kirk like your own family.
Although Kirk’s family and friends feel rudderless at this moment, we know he is happy and reunited with his wife, mother, and father. We find solace in knowing he is at peace, and we believe he will continue to watch over us and be with us.
A celebration of life will be announced by the family at a later date.
In lieu of flowers please honor Kirk’s traditions by attending his favorite restaurants. Order the Huevos Rancheros with rice and beans at Two Amigos or visit The Pub on Fridays to order the catfish basket, spicy fries with extra tartar sauce.
To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
