Richard Lowe Obituary

Richard Garland Lowe, 65, passed away Monday, May 31, 2010, in Atlanta, Ga., following a 10-year battle with colon cancer. Memorial service: 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home in Fort Worth. A reception will follow. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that everyone reach out to male family/friends, encouraging them to have a colonoscopy by age 40. Richard was born April 15, 1945, to Juanita Turbeville and Garland Lowe. He was raised in Fort Worth and attended the University of Texas at Arlington. Over the years, Richard's career interests evolved from insurance sales to graphic design and computer software. In his last position, Richard worked for Cingular Wireless as an Oracle DBA. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Fort Worth and was a previous dedicated leader of its New Horizon Singles group. Richard and Ann met on the dance floor in 1996 and continued to enjoy West Coast Swing until ailing health prevented Richard from dancing. They enjoyed walking, dining out and traveling. He enjoyed drag racing. He was loving and considerate, and he had a great sense of humor. Richard and Ann had recently moved to Atlanta to be closer to her family. The family extends special thanks to the talented doctors and nurses at Texas Oncology and Embracing Hospice House in Cumming, Ga., for their loving care during a difficult journey. Richard was predeceased by his parents; sister, Laverne; and his beloved cat, Lilly. Survivors: The love of his life, Ann Rayner-Lowe; daughter, Cindy McSwain (Dale); and grandchildren, Jeremy Daniel, Jennifer Daniel and Zachary McSwain. He also looked on Ann's children, Amy Polhemus and Andrew Rayner, and Amy's sons, Connor and Colby Polhemus, as his own.
