Robert Wingate Obituary

Robert Wingate Sr., 84, of Fort Worth passed away Saturday, July 6, 2013. Funeral: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Whitney. Officiating will be the Rev. Verne Fuqua. Interment will follow in Whitney Memorial Park. Visitation: 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, prior to the service. Memorials: May be sent to American Heart Association, P.O. Box 841125, Dallas, Texas 75284-1125; or the American Cancer Society, 1700 Success Drive, Waco, Texas 76710. Robert was born May 7, 1929, in Whitney to Raymond and Gaynell Rose Wingate. He grew up in Whitney, graduated from Whitney High School, and after graduating went to work in Fort Worth for Convair. Robert later joined the United States Army and served his country in Korea. He married Katie Cunningham on June 27, 1953, and they lived in Fort Worth. Robert went to work for General Dynamics and worked there for 42 years as a general machinist before retiring to Blum in 1982. Mr. Wingate returned to Fort Worth in 2000. He loved to watch Rangers baseball, enjoyed woodworking, and had a love for dogs and bluegrass music. Robert enjoyed raising cows and crops, and rebuilding old tractors. He was a member of The International Association of Machinists. Preceding him in death were his parents and five brothers, Randy, Joe, Freddie, Oland and Roland. Survivors: His wife, Katie of Fort Worth; children, Dianne Mays and husband, Craig, of Cresson, Robert Wingate Jr. and wife, Mariana, of Fort Worth, Kay Sweeney and husband, Paul, of Arlington, Brenda Shirley and husband, Scott, of Fort Worth, and Keith Wingate and wife, Stephanie, of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Zachary Mays, Caitlin Shearon, Brian Wingate, Tara Wingate, Amie Klager, Bethany Baldwin, Anna Sweeney, Mary Sweeney, Lauren Shirley, Katie Shirley, Ian Wingate, Isabella Wingate, Lillian Wingate; and seven great-grandchildren.
