Sherry Lumpkin Obituary

Sherry L. Lumpkin, 52, passed away in Arlington on Monday, Aug. 13, 2012, after a long battle with cancer. She worked as a project specialist at North Texas Regional Extension Center in Irving. Memorial service: 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday for family and friends at 4478 Sweetgum Way in Fort Worth. Please feel free to come by to share stories, remember her, or visit with others who loved her. Memorials: The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, people send donations to the American Cancer Society. Sherry was born Oct. 3, 1959, in her hometown of Helena, Ark., to parents Betty Lumpkin Salmon, currently of Fort Worth, and the late Jerry Lumpkin. She attended Central High School, graduating with honors in 1978. Following high school, she attended Louisiana State University where she majored in computer science. Sherry had a great passion for music and could, at the drop of a hat, name the artist and title for just about any song. Needless to say you wanted Sherry on your team when playing "Name That Tune." Her love of cards and board games equaled her passion for music, and she took great enjoyment in teaching others, especially her children, nieces, and nephews, how to play. Sherry enjoyed traveling and had journeyed to Europe several times to pursue her desire to learn about history and the world. Sherry's great sense of humor and keen wit will be missed by all who knew her. She deeply loved her family and friends and was very excited for the birth of her first grandson in October. Even though Sherry passed before his arrival, his family will keep his Nana's memory alive. Survivors: Daughter, Stephanie Roberts and husband, Nathan, and their expected son, Henry; her son, Jeremy Cerulla; her former husband, Charles Cerulla; her mother, Betty Salmon; sister, Kathy Thompson; and brothers, James Lumpkin and Tim Lumpkin and his wife, Valerie; nieces, Anna and Samantha Thompson; and nephews, Brien, Conor and Jesse Lumpkin.

I'm sorry I couldn't be there to share in the stories of Sherry with family and friends. Though I live far away and haven't seen Sherry in a couple years, we weren't that far thanks to Facebook and online chats. Rest in peace dear Sherry. Praying for all the family now in this time of sorrow.

I'm so sorry about the loss of Sherry. I didn't know she still had cancer. I thought she was in remission. I'm glad I got to see her when she came to Helena to get James David several months ago.

You were very loved and will be missed. But you are with your Dad, your Uncle Jim, your Grandmothers and all the family who are in Heaven with you. Now you can look down on all of us and laugh at our mistakes. That's what Jim does to me and I know it.

I am so sorry for your loss. I did not know Sherry well. We were both friends of Pam Shirey. I will remember her most for her quick wit on game nights at Pam's and how much fun she was to be around.

I'll remember Sherry for so many things... her laughter, her fierce loyalty, her love of card games and Scrabble, and of course, her love of music. There are so many songs that will always speak to me of Sherry when I hear them. The world lost a little bit of its music with her passing.

My heart breaks along with yours. We will miss her so very much. Sherry had the ability to brighten any room she entered with laughter and that great sense of humor. Out of hundreds of backgammon games, I think I may have won 10! Oh but what fun we had. I await the birth of precious baby Henry with much love and happiness.

Oh my, what a surprise how quickly you left us! You really caught me off gaurd! I know how excited you were for the arrival of Henry. Plotting and planning a way to spend tons
of time with him. Now you will watch him grow from the heavens. I will miss our heartfelt chats and our music venue outings. I am happy you didnt suffer long. Your enlightening personality and edgy ideas will stay with me forever. I know you are at peace. Much love-
