Born Feb 11, 1974 in Arlington, TX to John and Jill Sage, he grew up in San Angelo and graduated from Central High School. He then attended Texas Tech and Angelo State University and earned his bachelor of business degree from Angelo State University.
Matt was an avid swimmer in high school and continued to swim throughout his life.
He was involved in Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity at both Universities and considered many of his fraternity brother’s true brothers. Matt served in the US Navy Reserves and the US Border Patrol. He then spent many years helping people in the insurance industry. Matt loved his friends and family and especially loved his dog, Bea.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Sage.
He is survived by his mother, Jill Sage; his sister, Samantha Sage of Fredericksburg; his nephew, Will Keller, of Stephenville; his nieces, Ellison Keller of Fort Collins and Alex Keller of Fredericksburg; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A rosary service will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at Harper Funeral Home Chapel. A memorial mass will take place at 10:00 AM, Friday, January 9, 2026 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
The Sage family is grateful for the care and support of Gentiva Hospice, Monica Sanchez and her crew of aides and friends and family who helped Matt along his journey this last year.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the San Angelo Area Foundation for the Matthew Sage Memorial Scholarship Fund, 221 S. Irving St, San Angelo, TX. 76903
