Christa Dobbs Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heartland Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Early on Feb. 20, 2026.
Christa Lee Blue Dobbs, known throughout her life as Christa Lee, Christy, Mama, Mimommie, and Dr. Dobbs, lived a life marked by faith, family, and service. Funeral Services will be 10 AM on Monday February 23rd at Greenlawn Church of Christ in Lubbock with burial to follow at 3:30 PM in Rankin, Texas at the Rankin Cemetery Pavilion. Services are under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home in Early, Texas.

Born September 11, 1927, in Allen, Oklahoma, to Perry and Clara Blue, Christa was raised with deep love by her parents and grandmother, Estelle Ginn. She was active in school, playing clarinet, singing in glee club, and participating in operettas. She later earned a degree in accounting from Oklahoma A&M and married Vergil William Dobbs on June 1, 1947. Together they raised two daughters, Denecia and Gaylene. After moving to Rankin, Texas, Christa taught business courses at the high school.

Following her husband's death in 1966, she earned her doctorate from Texas Tech University and went on to serve as head of the Business Department at Lubbock Christian University. She was a devoted educator who loved her students and took pride in their accomplishments. In 2018 LCU opened the Christa Dobbs Center for Business in her honor.

As a mother and grandmother, Christa was known for her devotion to her family, her mile-high meringue pies, and her steady faith. She treasured time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was active with Sojourners Ministry, restoring children's homes and Bible camps across the country.

Above all, she loved God and lived by the motto, "Do one kind thing each day." She was an active member of Green Lawn Church of Christ.

Christa passed from this life on February 18 2026. She is survived by daughter Denecia Hubbard and husband Joe of Comanche, daughter Gaylene McMackin and husband John of Midland, grandsons Jason Hubbard and wife Shawntay and Jordan Hubbard and wife Debbie, and great-grandchildren: Abby, Rylee and husband Blake, Jaycie, Ava, Christa Jenae, Avery, and Jarrett.

Memorials may be made to the Dr. Christa Dobbs Endowed Accounting Scholarship Fund at Lubbock Christian University.
