Sheryl Blaylock Obituary

Dr. Sheryl Blaylock

July 14, 1958 - August 3, 2025

Weatherford, Texas - Sheryl Lynn Blaylock, age 67, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 3, 2025 after being diagnosed with early onset, rapidly progressive Alzheimer's in 2022. She was born in Houston on July 14, 1958 as the only child of Robert Gene and Faye Shirlene Blaylock, with her father being a distinguished Texas peace officer.

Sheryl graduated with a degree in biology from the University of Houston-Clear Lake, spent several years as a research assistant at Baylor College of Medicine and then entered the UT Galveston Medical School, graduating with her MD degree in 1994. Following that were three years of internal medicine residency at St. Paul Hospital in Dallas where she served as chief resident. During that period, Sheryl also met her future husband, Steven Burre and was married at Thistle Hill Mansion in Fort Worth in August 1997.

Sheryl had a solo internal medicine practice in Weatherford, Texas for 21 years starting in 1998, with her greatest reward being the many letters from patients thanking her for saving their lives. Sheryl insisted on being a solo medical practitioner to spend as much time as necessary to properly evaluate and treat her patients, with a special determination to solve the really tough cases.

Steve and Sheryl were able to share many adventures together including travel to many destinations across the United States including visits to Alaska, Iceland and Greece, and starting their marriage with a honeymoon to St. Barts.

While this terrible disease took her keen mind, Sheryl retained her kind and cheerful nature to the very end. Consistent with her medical research background, Sheryl selflessly chose to donate her brain and spinal cord tissue to the Biggs Institute in San Antonio as part of vital research which will lead to new treatments for Alzheimer's disease in the future.

Sheryl was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Faye Blaylock.

She is survived by husband, Steven Burre of Weatherford, Texas, and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles primarily in the Houston area.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer's & Neurodegenerative Diseases Research Fund.

Deepest gratitude is extended to Windsor Court Senior Living and Gateway Hospice Providers for their care during the final two years of her life, as well as Sharon Chapman for providing home health care assistance before that.

A memorial service celebrating Sheryl's life is planned for Saturday, August 30, 2025 at 2 p.m. at White's Chapel of Memories, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford, Texas.
