Steve was born on Jan. 9, 1950, to U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant Daniel G. and Helen (Mason) Boyd in Mt. Clemens, Mich. The family was stationed in France, Germany and at bases in the U.S. before moving to Fort Worth in 1966. Steve enjoyed a rewarding 41-year career in nursing and made many lifelong friends. He had clinical experience in emergency room, medical-surgery, post-anesthesia care unit, intensive care unit, pediatric and hospice nursing. In Fort Worth, he was honored to be chosen to care for a patient with a progressive neuromuscular disease for five years in a home-care environment until the patient's passing. A graduate of Paschal High School, Steve earned an associate degree in nursing from Tarrant County Junior College School of Nursing. He graduated summa cum laude from Texas Tech University Health Science Center with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. A master falconer since 1984, he was a member of the North American Falconers Association and the Texas Hawking Association. He was known as a mentor to many and for helping friends and family, including giving one of his kidneys to his half-brother. He kept up with everyone on Facebook. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Scott and Christopher Boyd. SURVIVORS: Beloved wife of 47 years, Jan Lawrence Boyd; son, Christopher Ian Boyd (Glenda); daughter, Lisa Fleur Ploof (William); nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, all of Glen Rose.

So sorry to hear about Steve. Back in the early 70's while furthering our educations I worked with Steve as do-all-type orderlies at John Peter Smith Hospital. Things were crazy back then but Steve was solid as a rock. Intelligent, common sense, great personality and very caring. Years later we happened across each other one night at a fast food restaurant in Dallas. It was just like another day and we had a great visit. There was never any doubt Steve would have a successful career and great life. My deepest condolences to Jan and family.

Mango, a gift from Steve Boyd in 1985

January 30, 2019

My name is Laurel Thompson. I am the daughter of Steve's half-brother, Gary Henry, to whom he donated his kidney in 1983. I have never met a more generous person, willing to part with a vital organ to a brother he was not raised with and had only met once before. Steve also gave a yellow-naped Amazon parrot to me and my husband for a wedding present in 1985 - Mango is still a beloved member of our family. I am so sorry for his loss. He was a great man and will be remembered as such.

Oh Steve, the memories we shared. The time you took me aside and asked me if I loved my Richard. When I said yes, you sternly told me to quit leading him on and marry him. Here we are 47 years later. I will miss you and I can still hear you calling out to Jan. Rest well my friend.

I am so sorry to hear about Steve's passing. I met him when I was in nursing school and he was director of nurses at GRMC and I had a clinical there. I remember how helpful he was to me as a student and also his easy manor in doing his job. Then about 10 years later I was a nurse at the same hospital and he came back to work there in the surgery dept. He was still the same great nurse and very easy to work with and be around. I haven't seen him since then. I know he will be missed. My heart goes out to his family. God Bless You...

I was shocked and saddened to read about Steve. I was out of state when this occurred and was unawares until today. What a great guy, a Renaissance man, a wonderful asset for any community and certainly Glen Rose and Somervell County. A treasure lost. My belated condolences to Jan and all the family and friends.

My husband and I send our sincere sympathy to your family. We believe it was Nurse Steve who assisted very capably during a recent surgery I had in Fort Worth. He was very kind, and he brought a great energy and wit to the room, which was reassuring and comforting. Prayers for your family.
