Steve Hilscher Obituary

Steve Hilscher passed away Thursday, April 19, 2012. Service: 11 a.m. Saturday in Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Chapel. Visitation: 10 a.m. to noon Saturday in Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Chapel. He was a great father whose No.1 priority was always his kids, whether it was scholastic events or sports where he coached his kids. He was a musician who taught himself to play and played by ear. He attended Texas Tech where he studied horticulture. His studies and artistic abilities lent themselves well to Steve becoming a third-generation nurseryman with Hilscher Nursery, which started in 1925. He installed much of the beautiful landscaping that you see around Fort Worth today. He lived to work with his hands and loved to work on his projects in his spare time. Survivors: He is survived by his sons, Josh and Matt Hilscher; and his father, L.J. Hilscher.

Steve was a fabulous person, many of us enjoyed so many times together...; riding horses and just so many hanging out with friends. The Meadowbrook Wranglers was a main gathering and fun time that is so remembered--that Steve and his family were also a HAPPY part of. I continue to PRAY for all of the Hilscher family. Thanks for all the GREAT memories. GOD BLESS'- Cynthia MILLER'-

I also went through junior high and high school with Steve, and we graduated together in 1970. He was always a kind-hearted, generous, and gentle person. A great guy, and a great musician. The world is a better place because of him. May he rest in peace, and may the loving arms of the Lord embrace his family and loved ones.

I did not know Steve as well as some of our classmates, but I did know him. And what I remember is this. He was always kind and accepting. That means a lot in high school. RIP Steve.

Josh and Matt, my heart is heavy with hearing the loss of your father!! He so loved you two and how he loved watching you both play Football. I will always carry the memories of riding with your Mom and Dad to football games and spending nearly every Saturday night listening to your Dad's band “Tequila Mockingbird” play across DFW..…Oh how he could make his guitar sing – Jimi Hendrix “All Along the Watchtower” and Stevie Ray Vaughan's “Pride and Joy” and of course “Brick House”…my favorite. If I close my eyes I can see your Dad and hear him playing!!! I will truly miss this kind soft spoken man and pray that God will hold you two in his Grace and give you peace during this difficult time. Give your Mom a hug from me!!

I met Steve on the first day of school in Mrs. McVean's first grade class at Meadowbrook Elementary. I remember that day well because he cried and his mom stayed with him. When we dated in high school we laughed a lot about that story. I have so many memories of Steve over our 12 years together in school. Elementary carnivals, hay rides, Stock Show Parades, the 6th grade talent show when his band played a Beach Boys song, but wore Beatle wigs, dance classes, walking to WBAP through the woods, Teen Canteens, listening to his band, football games, dances in the gym, getting stuck on the Ferris Wheel at the Stock Show, the Twin Drive in, and on and on. After high school we lost touch and would have fun catching up at class reunions. He was so kind and a true gentleman – and he could always make me laugh! I am thankful for my memories and I hope his family will hold tight to their cherished times with Steve. We will all miss him. Thank you Mr. Hilscher for raising such a wonderful son!!

Steve designed a yard for us many years ago, and I loved it. We recently moved to a new house that had beautiful landscaping and it was one of the reasons that I really liked the house. As we were going through the garage I found the landscaping blueprints, and guess what. It was a Steve Hilscher design! The beauty of his world lives on. --Susan Hoskins (North Richland Hills,TX)

I am so heartbroken to learn of Steve's passing. He was my childhood boyfriend during our Meadowbrook Elementary days (4th & 5th grades). He often took me horseback riding in Oakland Park where he taught me to "skip" rocks across the lake. His parents raised him well and it often showed. He even opened doors for me when we were children; such a gentleman. I will always remember his gentle kind ways and all the fun we had growing up. He will be missed by so many; my sympathy to his sons and father.

The memories of our friendship, adventures, and antics, will never be lost and I will cherish them forever. Josh and Matt, oh how your father loved you. May god comfort you with his grace. And Steve, Ill see you in heaven, and ill bring the guitars

I had the privilege of playing music with Steve. He brought such joy and enthusiasm to each show which gave everyone who was there a lift. He was more than just a band mate, he was a friend and fierce supporter that made you want to be better yourself. My sympathies go out to his family and friends.

Rock on my brother.
