Steven Martin Obituary

Steven Morley "Steve" Martin

February 5, 1947 - September 2, 2025

Willow Park, Texas - Steven Morley "Steve" Martin, Maj. USAF, Ret., 88, of Willow Park, Texas, passed in the early morning hours of September 2, 2025, in the presence of beloved family.

Steve was born on February 5, 1937, to Morley Vernon Martin and Elizabeth Ann (Simms) Martin in Lafayette, Indiana. He graduated Jefferson High School in Lafayette in 1955, earning his B.S. in education from Indiana State University in 1960. Steve was a natural born athlete, from playing in the Little League World Series through football, diving, golf and basketball from high school to ISU, where he was an All-American. Steve was an avid golfer, often shooting his age. After a period as a coach and teacher, he joined the United States Air Force in 1963 and attended Officer Training School, where he was a Distinguished Graduate.

Steve served our nation around the world. Beginning as a logistics officer, he served in Turkey, Lebanon and Japan; and then served as Wing Logistics Plans Officer for the 14th Special Operations Wing in the Republic of Vietnam, earning the Bronze Star for heroism in active combat and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. He would later be awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, as well as numerous other citations, ribbons, and medals. His service also included posts at Griffiss AFB, NY, and Albrook AFB in the Panama Canal Zone. After graduating Air Command and Staff College, he served in Tehran, Iran, was named Air Force Chief of Foreign Military Sales for the F-16, and eventually a Chief of Logistics, working closely with General Dynamics. This final post is where he met Geneane Lewis Borth, who would become his loving wife. Upon his retirement and honorable discharge in 1983, he transitioned to General Dynamics from which he retired in 1991.

Steve and Geneane married on February 18, 1978, and he devoted his life to her happiness, loving her children and family as his own. That love was returned in abundance for the 47 years they spent together before his passing. "Papaw" was beloved by his grandchildren, and his contribution to their lives is without measure.

Steve is survived by his wife Geneane; his "children", Denise Teague, and John Borth (and fiancée, Jan Hall); "son"-in-law, Kyle Tatom (and wife, Sheila); "grandsons", Jarred Borth, Cody Borth, Seth Martin Tatom, and Skyler Tatom; and dear friend Kathy Moller. The family gives their special thanks to Jan, Kathy, Kyle, and the staff of Beyond Faith Hospice for giving him comfort in his final days. He joins Mom and Pop, and beloved "daughter" Teena Tatom at the Lord's side.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 8, 2025, at the Annetta Cemetery, 2667 West Farm to Market 5, Annetta, Texas 76008. Services are under the direction of White's Funeral Home, Weatherford, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, Steve would want donations made to The Wounded Warrior Foundation, St. Francis of Assisi Anglican Church, Willow Park, Texas, or a veterans' charity of choice.
