Arlington, Texas - Suzanne (Susie) Henry was born on August 18, 1942, to Henry Murl and Mary Jean Gay in Searcy, Arkansas. She attended and graduated from the University of Michigan in 1964 with a degree in Elementary Education and took a job teaching in the Michigan Public School System. In 1960, she married her first husband and had two children from this union, Mark, and Michelle McDaniel. In 1977 she married the love of her life, James (Jim) Duane Henry and they blended their two families together; his four children and her two, a year later they welcomed their daughter Janet to complete the family. Jim and Susie ran several businesses together over the years including a pest control and janitorial service as well as procuring and delivering farming equipment to under privileged regions overseas. After raising her family, she decided to return to school to pursue her lifelong passion for social work and mental health. She earned her Master's in Social Work from University of Texas at Arlington in 1990 and went on to study for her Ph. D at Texas Women's University. One of her strongest legacies is her favorite love language, which was cooking and baking. She was also a very creative person who quilted and made hundreds of blankets for the children of Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. A lover of literature, she was a voracious reader who consumed several books a week. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her sister Beverly. She is survived by her husband Jim, son Mark McDaniel, daughter Michelle McDaniel, daughter Janet (Anthony) Greenman and her stepchildren Michael (Darlene) Henry, Suzanne (Ronnie) Eberts, David Henry, and Annette (Kevin) O'Donnell as well as 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life was held in her honor on January 13, 2024, in Pantego, Texas. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children or Alzheimer's Association.
