Vic was a terrific study partner the first two years at Northwestern. He always thought up clever mnemonics to help me remember details for exams. When I was short on funds for books, he gave me his part-time job as hospital EKG tech.
Vic looked after others in our class. When alone in Chicago as a first year med student, he invited me to join his relatives in Skokie for Thanksgiving Dinner. I will never forget my great and noble friend.

Today is Vic´s birthday and though we have been close friends for almost forty years we didn´t talk but three or four times a year but catch up was for hours. I had finally found a card to send that he could touch and understand but was preparing to call hoping not to disturb a nap. For some reason I searched his name first. I am heartbroken. We met through our professions . I met hundreds of physicians, mostly Nephrologists, through the years and I can tell you that I never met one as totally dedicated to his patients as Vic Meltzer. He just lived for them. His love for his girls and Cammie and Leif were apparent every time we spoke. He was the most courageous person I´ve known and in fact I had a star named for him Victors Courage is out there somewhere and now he is shining through. My thoughts are with all who loved him. I will miss him terribly.

Dr. Meltzer was one of the finest Doctors ever...and the finest that I ever met...and unfortunately I have met many.
He cared deeply about his patients.
He was also a great person, and He and I had many great conversations.
He is missed.
I pray God will give his family peace and strength during this time.

I went to high school in Great Bend, Ks. with him. We were both in Boy Scouts and received our Eagle Scout award at the same ceremony. He was a great friend in both school and scouts. I am truly sorry for your loss.

I worked with Dr Meltzer for about 20 years at Texas Health Resources HEB. No one ever fought harder for the life of their patients. He never gave up on anyone. He had a sixth sense for deficiency and would call it out. He had high standards for his patients and their care. I have so much respect for his expertise as a Nephrologist and all the work he put into HEB hospital.
