Wayne Cooper Shaffer HILLSBORO--Wayne Cooper Shaffer Date, born April 19, 1927, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018. GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2018, in Moore Memorial Gardens, 1219 N. Davis Drive, Arlington, Texas, 76012. Wayne was born to Clydie Etta and Otis Guy Shaffer in Corsicana, Texas. He spent most of his early years in New London, Texas, graduating from New London High School. Wayne enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945 and served mostly in the South Pacific. He was discharged in 1946, attending Kilgore Junior College, Kilgore, Texas, for the next two years. He married Gloria Ragsdale Shaffer on Nov. 27, 1948. Wayne and Gloria began their family of two sons while living and working in Dallas. They moved to Arlington, Texas, in June, 1954, when Wayne was hired in to the General Motors Plant. He worked there until retirement in 1985. Wayne was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star having served as Past Patron of the Arlington and Hillsboro chapters of the Eastern Star. Wayne and his wife, Gloria, enjoyed belonging to and traveling with friends in the Airstream Travel Club. Wayne was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hillsboro and had resided at the North Texas Airstream Community in Hillsboro since June, 2000. Thank you to the doctors and nurses in the Emergency Room and Station One at Hill Regional Hospital. Wayne was preceded in death by his father, mother, brother, and a son. SURVIVORS: Wayne is survived by his son, David and his wife, Nancy; four grandsons; one granddaughter; 10 great-grandchildren.
