Barbara Jones Obituary

Jones, Barbara
Barbara Irene Slocum Jones was born March 13, 1926 in Columbus to John Slocum and Irene Marburger, residents of 471 East Hudson Street for 60 years. She did summer stock theater in Yellow Springs as a teenager and would take the train from Columbus with her sister to NYC to see the sights and Broadway shows. She graduated from North High School in 1943 and then worked at the Columbus Depot in Whitehall readying war supplies for the front during WWII. She graduated as a Tri-Delta from OSU with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1947 and a Master's Degree in Theater in '49, directing "The Hasty Heart" for her thesis. She went on to work in the early days of television at WTVN in the Lincoln-LeVeque Tower, eventually booking talent like Jonathan Winters and coordinating party planning for high profile events. She married WWII vet Richard McClelland Jones on October 20, 1951. She raised 2 children, followed by taking care of her husband in illness and parents in old age. She was an eloquent writer of poems in birthday cards, a watercolor student of artist Leland S. McClelland, a Buckeye fan, photographer and cinephile. Barbara was dedicated to her family- never forgetting a birthday or important event. Her mental acuity and thoughtfulness will never be forgotten. She passed away suddenly on June 23rd, 2016 at the age of 90 in the loving company of her daughter and 2 granddaughters. She is survived by her daughter, Bari; son-in-law, Richard Scarberry; cousin, Vic Rogers; nieces, Jill and Suzy Gentile; nephew, Doug Gentile; niece, Becky Young; grandchildren, Lane, Dan and Tess Scarberry. She was preceded in death by her husband, aunt Louise Lamb of Arizona, sister Donna Gentile of Olathe, Kansas and son Richard McClelland Jones Jr.
