Berna Bell Obituary

Bell Berna Lou Brown Bell, age 61, of Columbus, OH, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2016. She was born to the late Collie L. Brown, Sr. and Amelia S. Brown on July 31, 1955. Berna was a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta, Incorporated. She received her undergrad at Smith College and was a devoted alumnus. She went on to receive her MBA from Fisher College at The Ohio State University. Berna was a Sunday School Teacher and loved her kids at Hilltop United Methodist Church. There she served as the Chair of Administrative Council, an Usher, on the Praise Team, as Chair of Worship, a member of the West Ohio Conference of Ordained Ministries and was the Chair of Education and Interpretation/Social Action of Capital Area South United Methodist Women. She worked as a Director, Health Economics and Policy with Ohio Hospital Association for many years and was a member of the following organizations: Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, The Allied Association of Hospital Accountants and Financial Specialists, The Institute for Diversity in Health Management and 2007 Graduate of the Jo Ann Davidson Ohio Leadership Institute. She was previously employed at Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital. Berna was preceded in death by her loving husband George Michael Bell, parents Collie Lee Brown, Sr. and Amelia Sadie Brown, brothers Larry Darnell Pruitt and Collie Lee Brown, Jr. She is survived by her loving sisters, Charlene Pruitt, Rosemary Pruitt and Deyett (James) Robertson; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A very special thank you is extended to Dr. Kelly Rath and the staff at BING Cancer Center as well as Riverside Methodist Hospital for their excellent care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations made be made to American Cancer Society, 5555 Frantz Rd., Dublin, OH 43017, in memory of Berna Bell. Arrangements entrusted to DIEHL-WHITTAKER FUNERAL SERVICE, 720 E. Long Street.
