Bill Fein Obituary

Fein, Bill
Bill Fein, 73, passed away January 9, 2021 in Naples, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Lillian (Traisman) Fein, and survived by his wife, Peggy (Bobay) Fein; and children, Andrea Fein (Tim Sullivan) of Seattle, Washington and Zachary (Emily) Fein of Fremont, North Carolina; as well as 5 wonderful grandchildren, Cora, Lucas, Lena, Mara and Anya. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Jo Morris Stone of the Villages, Florida, Pat (Roy) Boyd of Tucson, Arizona; and brother-in-law, Paul (Brenda) Bobay of the Villages, Florida; as well as nieces and nephews. Bill was born in Chicago, IL and grew up in Chicago and South Bend, Indiana, back in the days "when elementary school kids could take the L all over town, and our mothers never knew where we were." He graduated from Washington University and University of Michigan Law School. He practiced law in Columbus, Ohio first as an Assistant Attorney General then forming the firm Fein Vande Werken and later with the Thompson Hine law firm. Bill and Peggy retired to Naples, Florida where they have made many dear friends and enjoy sailing, biking and daily walks. Traveling has been a highlight, with summers spent in Europe, the Berkshires, and visiting family. In retirement, Bill found an outlet for his detail-orientation by researching wines, cocktails, and fine dining recipes, which he usually prepared with blues or jazz playing loudly in the background and enjoyed in the company of great friends. Unabashed in sharing his opinions, Bill's advice, stories, and wry sense of humor will be dearly missed by his extended family and his many friends.

This is too true, I have missed Bill's unabashed opinions and wry sense of humor since I retired from TH and he moved to Naples. He was a good friend and colleague.

Fein and Vande Werken was a fun place to work. I will always be thankful for the wedding party and baby shower they had for Bob and I. I was saddened to learn of Bill's passing and extend my sympathies to Peggy, Andi and Zach. (I think Andi was about two when I started working for Shayne, Fein and Vande Werken and remember Zach as a baby.)

Bill was a great attorney and employer. He will be remembered.

My wife Ann (née Partridge) and I were Bill’s high school classmates and friends who have known him and lightly kept up with him for almost 60 years. Bill was a wonderful person, with great humor, extremely high intelligence, and impeccable values. Ann credits Bill with rescuing her from a dangerous situation when they were both attending college in the St. Louis area. We will both miss him a lot, and we send Peggy and Bill’s other family members our deepest sympathy.

Bill was our personal and my corporate attorney for many years. He was always very personable and engaging. He will be greatly missed. Praying for Bill’s family and friends.
