I miss Brett, but I know where he is. Even though he has loved ones still here, I don't believe that he would change places with any of us. Aunt Naomi,

I worked with Brett at Liberty. I was only there a month or so, but this literally sent a shock to me when I heard about it a moment ago. Brett was a great friend for the time I knew him, and could always cheer everyone up when they were down. He will be dearly missed...

Brett will be missed by more than just family. He was always a great playmate during those awkward family reunions where 1-2 days a year was never enough time to enjoy my family. I will never forget playing "Paper, Rock, Scizzors" against Brett to sit "shotgun" in Roberts obnoxiously loud dually pickup...and losing...and getting ribbed because he won 3 times in a row. May God give his family strength and hope for as long as it takes. Rest peacefully cousin.

Our hearts ache for losing a beloved nephew. We will always treasure this summer's family reunion which included Brett and his sons Stephen and Joshua. May God's comfort and peace surround us all with a difficult loss but one who was surely loved. Uncle Dave and Aunt Shirley and family, Chesapeake, VA

We are all at a loss. This is not something any of us expects or are ever quite prepared for, especially when Brett was so young. My heart goes out to his father Paul, sister Treva, his children, and the rest of our family and friends. Brett was a good person who served our country and has now finally found peace with his Mommy and our Father!

Brett my dear cousin you can go in peace and be with your mommy now whom i know you missed very much. You will be missed daily and I'm so very happy that you found The Lord before you left this world and was able to know and love him. I'm sorry Uncle Paul and Treva, We all loved him very much and the way he could walk into a room and wear that Backus smile and bat those baby blue's. He reminds me of the stories I hear about Daddy. Very handsome, witty, and irreplaceable. All my love, Kelley A. Backus and kids, Mary Backus-Catron, Johnna Backus, Tonya Backus-O'Connor, and a plethera of cousins. Brett tell "Mom" We miss her and are thankful for the little bit of time God us gave with all of you!! And tell Daddy we miss and love him too. Good-Bye Brett see you in heaven:)
