Brian Butler Obituary

BUTLER Brian L. Butler, age 45, of Columbus, died peacefully, July 24, 2012, with his family by his side following a lifelong struggle with addiction. Brian's greatest passion was playing the guitar. He was an avid chess player. He was fiercely independent, witty and incredibly bright. He had a strong faith that, during periods of sobriety, rarely wavered. He is survived by his mother, Peggy; sister, Connie; nephew, Jonathan; many friends and extended family. He was preceded in death by his father Dee and brother Clay. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Union Cemetery, 3349 Olentangy River Rd., Columbus, OH 43202. To share your memories of Brian, please visit www.schoedinger.com. Memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army at https://donate.salvationarmyusa.org. A special thank you goes out to anyone and everyone who tried to help Brian throughout his lifetime. God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss-what a beautifully written tribute. Brian touched more lives than you'll ever know, and as sad as we are, struggles no more. I'll miss his quick wit-his way of speaking that made you want to listen. I pray for peace for you all during this time.

I would see Brian at my home group on Tuesdays at Whitehall Park. I always looked forward to seeing him because all us before the meeting would have great conversations. I saw him struggling..but prayers were said for him daily. He will be missed by alot of us who knew him. Our heavenly father has him now. Our prayers are with the Buttler family. Becky G.

I had a seizure while I was in the Salvation Army with Brian. He was the only person to come visit me in the hospital. We hooked up years later and went to recovery meetings together. He helped me and I tried to help him too. He was a good friend. Sorry to hear about this.
