Carl McClurg Obituary

McCLURG Rev. Carl Dean McClurg, of Lockbourne, pastor of the Duvall Community Church, passed from this life Saturday, December 16, 2006 at SunBridge Care Center, Circleville. He was born Octobert 14, 1925 in a little "hollow" just outside of Lucasville, Ohio to Chloe (Hickman) and Proctor McClurg. An infant brother Paul, brothers Stacey and Benton, and sisters Garnet and Hazel preceded him in death. His wife, Lorraine passed away from this life in Febuary of 1998, also sons-in-law James E. Orr II and Ralph Loar. Family members surviving this humble, but great patriarch are daughters, D. Yvonne Loar and Chloe Lorraine "Lori" Orr of Ashville; son, Monty (Gail) McClurg of Texas; grandsons, Aaron (Sharee), Buddy, and Javan (Stephanie); granddaughters, Jamie (Brady), Danica, Cassie, and Ginnie; great grandchildren, Jessie, Calvin, Mikki, Connor, Katie, Caden, and Riley. After graduating from Ashville High School in 1943, Carl Started working at Buckeye Steel Castings Co., where he worked 57 years without missing a paycheck before being forced into retirement. In 1959, feeling lead by God to do so, Carl, with the help of some volunteers in the Community, started the Duvall Community Church, where people of various denominations could worship, thus benefiting the Lockbourne Air Force Base personnel and their families. Nearly 10 years later the church, along with the state of Ohio, granted him a license to preach and officiate at ceremonies. Through every situation in his life, he was known for his trust in God and not in himself. One of his last requests was that instead of purchasing flowers, that money be donated to the church to help families in need around the community. The Rev. Carl McClurg will lie in state for 2 hours prior to his Memorial Service at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 at the Duvall Community Church, 10926 Ashville Pike, Lockbourne, Ohio, with Rev. Eugene Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Reber Hill Cemetery, Ashville. For those who wish in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Duvall Community Church ,C/O Ynovva Loar, 11430 St. Rt. 104, Ashville, 43103. Arrangements by OLIVER-CHEEK FUNERAL HOME, Ashville.

I would personalty say that my Great-Grandpa was a Great Pastor for his time, even though I never meet him nor read any of his Speeches, but all I would like to say is THANK YOU POP FOR EVERYTHING and I'll be there at the Eastern Gate, where I know you'll be.

I'm sorry to hear of his passing. I was not aware until earlier this week or I would have attended his services. I worked with Carl for fourteen years at Buckeye Steel Castings. He taught me alot about the railroad industry. Carl was always so pleasant to me. He was very kind and giving. I remember on his birthday (and his Buckeye Steel Anniversary), we would get him a cake and it would bring so much joy to him. You could tell he was deeply touched. He will be missed greatly. My thoughts are with his family.

I worked in Engineering at Buckeye Steel when Carl was there. Was there when he was laid off. Awfully sad, but I know some things just happen. I liked Carl, hated to see him go. I sometimes thought he had a devilish streak in him, because he would get to chuckling about something that he had just caused to happen. He had a good life with a loving family who will miss him. We should all be so lucky. You all have my sympathy.

Pa was a beautiful man. He was one of the few who didn't get caught up in all of the selfish earthly jewels because he knew that the real jewels were in heaven. He truly put God and others before himself, and he is the one with the ultimate reward. I only wish I could have said goodbye, but you are finally where you belong. I love you Pa and you will be missed.

In life's long journey you seldom find an individual that you feel is 100 percent sincere in all that he does in life. And we met him through another individual just like himself. And you know who that was. Our beloved mother, Alice.
